10/2/2013 0:12:02 TravelCarrot Hello there. I'm quite new, but also quite knowledgeable about specific topics. Emergency Medical Services - you can call someone a tacky SOB in an ambulance and it means you're in deep concern for their health. What I tell you will make your eyes and ears bleed at every medical drama and crime show. Writing about someone going to/getting to the hospital? Did someone call an ambulance? I can give you all the jargon to give your character a 5 minute rundown and create as much clarity or confusion as you'd like. Illicit drug reactions - promise it's from third person experience. As an EMT I've been assaulted by people under the influence of almost every drug you can think of. I know what to look for, what it does, and usually how to stop it! EMT/Paramedic/Firefighter/Enough medical/medication/drug terminology Fire Services - start a fire to stop a fire? Sure! How do you dress to put out a fire? Why really do all men want to be firemen? I know! I'm sorry, but firemen gossip more, eat more cake, and are fatter than your 80 y/o aunt's sewing circle. Emergency Dispatch - So many codes and acronyms you'll want to cry. International travel - take a tunnel to a shuttle and scuttle your ship! Baltimore, Maryland - I'll either bore you silly or dazzle you with the REAL story of the Star Spangled Banner Washington, DC Beirut, Lebanon - from old churches in Mar Mikael, ultra post Gemayze, funky Hamra, to the windowless refugee camps, and all the doorless mini-busses, taxis, and alleys between them and around the country. May I see your visa, please, habibi? Austria (some Vienna, but mostly remote mountain village. I put the Vier Bergen Lauf and German phrases (shadenfreude, yes please!) in almost all of my stories. Would you like to?)

10/2/2013 11:59:52 Mae 13 Unschooling- unschooling is an educational philosophy where parents do not insist that their children learn anything they don't want to learn about. It's very much about trusting children and teenager's natural curiosity. I have been unschooled since birth, and know quite a lot about the philosophies, how it works in real life, the ups and downs, and the unschooling community. Paganism- I was raised in a pagan family, and my family has been hosting Sabbets (including solstices and equinoxes) 8 times a year with our pagan community. I've written many rituals and additionally participated in full moon rituals (and had a junior initiation to the pagan path). Gender- I am gender fluid, FAAB (female assigned at birth), and have spent many years and hundreds upon hundreds of hours educating myself on gender. I can tell you pretty much anything you want to know about transgender, gender queer, gender nonconforming and cis gender people, as well as quite a bit on intersex people. Everything from appropriate terminology, to the differences in the way people treat baby boys and baby girls, to what it is like to be trans, to how best to pass as a male or female person. I'd love to help your story include sensitively written trans characters, or just realistically written girls disguising as boys etc. Dyslexia- I was diagnosed as the most severely dyslexic under 18-year-old (by the president of the United States dyslexia foundation) at the age of 12. I have been through 5 different reading programs, and I struggle with my dyslexia daily. I write everything with voice-recognition software and a screen reader, and it deeply bothers me to see dyslexia misused or misrepresented in literature. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have about the way words look, coping strategies, daily struggles etc. The only thing I can't help you with is how to navigate dyslexia to through educational system, since I have never been to school.

Also falls into previous category. Can give general information on other Slavic languages as well. -Dog breeding, showing, training, etc. Both current methods and the history of it. -Horses, some. Depends on the topic. -European intellectual history (especially the history of political movements), especially as regards Russia and Germany. -Partisans and resistance movements in Europe (especially Armia Krajowa), though again it's going to be a matter of degree. -Target shooting (including competitive) . -Southeastern Michigan (maybe Michigan in general), including Detroit. -Kyiv/Kiev, Ukraine. Especially if you want current or early 20th century. -Probably some parts of the western US (Wyoming especially), Virginia, and parts of Florida.

Clothing, costume, fashion, spinning, weaving, other fibre skills -- 20 years a professional seamstress, costumer, and historical tailor. Especially enjoy figuring out new costumes for cultures in invented worlds. Familiar with hand methods and pioneered in narrow-loom square-cut clothing. Also a decent background and collection in saris. Food from scratch. Once someone in a workshop called me "the grain police." If I don't know the recipe, I can probably find an authentic source for, say, mushroom catsup (the predecessor of the tomato flavour). Kabuki -- studied and worked with Kabuki Hawai'i for a few years, which meant costuming with Onoe Kikunobu dance troupe. Anything medieval may have stuck in my brain, from my years in SCA. Interwar LA & NY, but not the entertainment biz. Been doing a lot of research there the last couple of years. Haven't been to either city in decades, though I grew up in LA.

Since WW2-1980, what you drive is as much your personality expression as what you wear, it's important to characterization to not accidentally have people in the wrong car. Just noticed we answer a lot of questions on "What car should my character have?" topics.

10/23/2013 16:51:16 knottedcord21 Hello! I'm a current Master of Library and Information Science student, and I don't know if this is the right place for this offer, but I'll give it a try. For one of my classes this quarter, I need to take on someone else's research project — not a simple question or two, but something more comprehensive, similar in scope to "What was medieval midwifery like?" or "Why did American convents boom in the 1950s, and how are they doing now?" So if you have an idea for a book but the research is holding you back, this could be your chance to get (semi-)professional assistance. If I select your topic, I will ask you for information about your research, such as "What resources have you already tried?" Then, sometime before December 5, I will provide you with a list of scholarly resources that I have found with my magic librarian skills, and I will be forever grateful for your participation. Please note the December 5 delivery date — this is not an ideal offer for 2013 NaNovelists. Thanks for your time, and happy writing!
