My title is (since I forgot to add it):
The Life (both real and imagined) of Abigail Anne Mills
(whew. that's a mouthful)
Give a 1-3 sentence synopsis of your novel:
Over the past several months there have been a significant increase in reported UFO sightings while Earths inhabitants continue to go about daily life with nervous anticipation. Emmanuel Manny Thomas, a bio-chemistry grad student at the University of Chicago and Joseph Daniel, a cyber-security professional at a Chicago-area technology firm, make contact with the aliens behind the UFO sightings and are drawn into opposite sides of an ancient alien feud. The stakes are high for the human race.
If you have some thoughts on how your novel will end, share these:
The bad guy will be defeated but in a redemptive way. The good guy will win but in a bittersweet way.
What is your best advice for others in this region to achieve success in NaNo?
I haven't the foggiest idea, this is my first time. I guess by definition if you keep writing till you reach 50K words you will have achieved success.
I guess I do have some advice for everyone - save your work frequently and keep all four month old kittens away from your laptop! No harm done - except for a slight heart attack on my part!
I love the title! It's catchy!
This novel is a continuation of my first NaNoWriMo book following the journey of Natalie Morgan, a young girl battling an eating disorder. She and her family have made their way through rehab and relapses and as they put the pieces of their family back together, a surprising new reality emerges.
Not sure yet of the ending but everything will not be tied up in a pretty little bow.
Whether you reach 50,000 words or not, take pride and satisfaction in the effort and the attempt to get into a regular routine of writing. (And don't look at Katherine Writing's word count!!)
Papa's Stories -- my second attempt. My first attempt was lost when I spilled water on my old laptop. D'oh!
1. Elsinore, at 16, has lost faith in the fantastical world she and her father have shared for most of her life, as she watches her father deteriorate beneath the weight of alcoholism and depression. With the sudden loss of her father, she finds herself battling with a desire to remain firmly entrenched in reality and the possibility that delving back into the world she has forsaken might allow her to save her father.
2. The ending is bittersweet. She saves her father from a fate worse than death, but discovers that she can't bring him back to life. New love, new friendship, an awakening, redemption, self-discovery.
3. I pooped out about halfway through, last time, so I don't have much advice. ;)
Do not be satisfied with the stories that come before you. Unfold your own myth. Rumi
Thanks!
I like your idea! It's very nifty!!! :D
The Olive-Lotus War : A re-envisioning of a story I wrote longer ago than I like to think about.
1) Annoyed by centuries of being ignored, the ancient Gods leave Earth and human-kind. After meeting up who knows how many years later, the Egyptian and Grecian Gods decide to amuse themselves, they're going to create a shell of the world as they once knew it to control until they're tired of it: Or is it a shell? Cue ridiculous star crossed love story between an Egyptian High Priest and a Grecian General who may not even exist at all.
2) Oh, there will be blood...And a joke ending before the real one that still makes me laugh harder than it should.
3) Budget your time. If you know you have more time to write one day, get as much work as you can then. If you know you're going to be busy (You know, studying for finals...), plan ahead and build yourself a buffer for your word count if you can!
Hi. I am DreamHigher2010.
1. My novel is really not a novel per se in the traditional sense, but a collection of themed stories of the memoir variety about a heroine who battles anxiety. She goes through a variety of funny and poignant experiences over a 5 year period to discover, reject, accept and eventually learn to cope with her problem.
2. The best treatment for our heroine in the end is writing, and she leaves the security of a stable government job to plunge into a new career. I am writing this book for myself and all the people who need to laugh and be inspired by other's foibles on the road to good mental health.
3. Just write everyday. Be selfish. Under promise and under deliver. If you have school age kids, you will be amazed at their independence if you decide not to cook for them or do their laundry for a month. My kids were 10 and 15 the first year the lost their mom to Nanowrimo, and this year they are planning to feed me! Also attend events if you can. Support is critical.
Second Sock Caper
1. Faeries collect the lost items by night, and workers return them by day. The key lies in not being seen. Cabrerra runs the lost sock desk, and knows the ins and outs of the Neru neighborhood by the connected laundry rooms. He stumbles upon a plot to leave children bereft of their childhoods. Can he catch the crook and protect the children of his borough?
2. It will probably come to a wicked conclusion and then the credits will roll. Of course, there will be lessons learned and hearts broken along the way.
3. My best advice is to not do what I do. Actually, write down every fleeting thought that comes to you. Have a second document open so you can 'stuff' those untimely ideas or 'what ifs' or 'needs more research'. You can count these words toward your goal! Join Jabber, go to a write-in, get out there and see what it's all about. This is the best region, so jump in!
Tim, this is one of the greatest motivational tools for me. Great job providing this. Thank you for using all your technical skills in making this region so user friendly!
Back again for number nine.
Like a Soldier in the Rain, this novel seems to be about life on a military base when there is no war to fight. In this instance, the base in on L59 a planet fifty light years from earth, but the situation is the same for a couple of entrepreneurial hard cases, non-commissioned officers who find they are stationed on an alien world that is drier than Georgia on Sunday morning; with nothing to trade, nothing to sell, and nothing to drink. For these enterprising soldier-businessmen, the solution is clear; in a civil war there is profit, and to the conqueror go the spoils. In this case a warehouse of grain, a pressure cooker, and a length of copper tubing.
Good luck to all.
Roger
1. A woman realizes that she's in love with her best friend, but never tells him even when she knows he feels the same way. Over the years, they continue on the path of their separate, but intertwined lives.
2. The ending will either feature a sad reflection/realization that the woman has missed all of the moments she had to tell him how she feels and her life could have been completely different.
3. This is my first year, so I don't have any advice from experience. I like the write-ins and word wards, it helps me write more!
1-I have two novels that I am working on at the moment, so here are six sentences to describe the both of them.
The Game- Jade is far from a gamer girl, but when her uncle gives her a video game for Christmas she is try it out. After five minutes of playing, the game is too much and she tries to log out, but she finds the log out button is gone. From there on out she is stuck in the video game, and unless she defeats it she can never return home.
CY- CY is short for cyborg, which is also the main character of this novel. CY is created by a lonely scientist Akira and forced to remain in her apartment, in fear of the government finding out about his existence and taking him away. When he is found out what will happen to him, and better yet, what will happen to his creator?
2-
The Game- Hm...I have no idea.
Cy- I have really no idea. I'm just running with the idea right now and am not sure where I want to go with it.
3-
MAKE FRIENDS! Last year my amazing writing buddies saved me from an attack from plot bunnies, my inner editor, and a bad case of thisnovelstinks, letsdeleteit. They also keep you honest and keep you writing. Write ins also help, but if you're like me and enjoy chit-chatting with others, they can also be distracting. I guess you have to pick your poison on this one.
1. Give a 1-3 sentence synopsis of your novel
A modernised fractured fairy-tale retelling of the original Sleeping Beauty story. Talia is a the wife of an elite New York doctor, with money power and two beautiful children. She hates every moment of the life thrust upon her and longs to be able to stop living a lie.
2. If you have some thoughts on how your novel will end, share these
Probably going to be a bit ambiguous.
3. What is your best advice for others in this region to achieve success in NaNo?
Don't let the 50k get you down. Take it one day at a time if you need and don't forget to count the little successes.
I'm not *technically* part of this group because I'm in Iowa City (damn you college), but Naperville's still home for me and I would love to be included. I'm with you guys in spirit!
The Pack - Juliette06
1. In which the world's deadliest pack of werewolves tries to stop a cure for werewolfism.
2. Basically the pack gets a good moral kick in the butt and ends up doing the Right Thing; there's some romance too and (almost) everyone lives happily ever after.
3. Write ins!!! Word-buddies, word-count contests, have fun with it. Even if you don't write much, write a little every day.
I miss you guys agagd :C
1. "Imprint": Mira is a lost soul in a world where everything is mapped out for your life's Cycle. As she digs deeper into her own path, she discovers that other around her feel out of sync too. Mira and friends risk it all to find out who they're destined to be and how they can reclaim their own lives.
2. Mira finds out she is destined to bring down the corrupt system that has been falsifying people's Blueprints for their own power and gain.
3. Write. And write again. And again. Even if you think it's crap or it's not going to make the final cut, just write. Get the whole picture out onto paper and decide after NaNo where to trim away the excess. Even if what you're writing doesn't make the final cut, you'll get to know your characters and their motivations better.
I'm in Texas and they let me hang around here. Make it your home region, and I'll never tell! LOL
