You can find out how to join our online chat room at naperwrimo.org/irc:
To get access, enter your e-mail addresson this page. You will receive your account credentials through e-mail and be able to join the room(seenaperwrimo.slack.com).
Slack has an advantage over IRC in that there is contextual history preserved for the room, so that people can interact with each other asynchronously (where in IRC you might miss a person by seconds and never know that they had been there at all).
To run a word war, you can go to the #wordwars slack channel and run a command like this:/remind @here Stop writing:hamster: :broken_heart::broken_heart::bangbang::bangbang:!!! in 17 minutes
If you go online, post in the forum too so people who aren't just hanging around in the chat room will know to join you.

Sorry to hear you're having problems connecting, Dave. Try:

Successful tests will display in green, failures or errors in yellow.

Tim,
I am getting six socket errors.
Dave
Which browser are you using? Can you try it in a different browser?
Getting the same messages using Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. Oh, well, I guess I am not destined for the virtual chat this year.
I wonder if you have some firewall (since the problem affects both browsers) or proxy that is blocking slack.
You could also try installing slack on your phoneor tablet...
