I could use a little group therapy....i'm only at 19k right now...and i feel bummed that I won't make 50k even though I remind myself "it's not about finishing to 50k, it's about seeing it through to the end...and it's about the fact that you wrote 19k more words than you would have written if you hadn't joined nano!"
Is there anyone else who isn't going to make 50k? I haven't even reached the half way point...and unless i want to write 11k every day....i doubt i will make 50k and despite my pep talking, I still feel bummed...and i just want to know that I am not alone and that there are others in the Nano Region who feel me
Don't blink. Blink and your dead. They are fast. Faster than you can believe. Don't turn your back, Don't look away, and don't blink!
It's always a bummer to not reach your goal, no matter what that word count is. Even if you won't make it, never quit. Remember that you're successful for having the guts to get up and try when so many others won't even start.
I know that's probably not as comforting as you would have liked, especially given my Winner! status, but it really is the truth. Trying and failing is far more commendable than never trying at all because we grow through our failures. If you never try, you never grow. And look, you have grown by 19k more words than you had at the beginning of the month. That counts for something!
Personally, I write with varying goals year-round. Some months, I hit my stride and meet my goals without a problem. Other times, I scrape by. And still others, I don't even come close. (Though it does seem that my competitive streak comes out in November.) Anyone who writes has good months and bad months, and you're certainly not alone this month. Just let yourself feel it, and then move on with goals that work for you.
I will not reach 50K. I never do. My goal this year was just to write everyday and with two days left so far I have succeeded in that goal. Good luck to you and just try to write today and tomorrow no matter how much writing it is. You can always continue to work on your story after the month of November.
Also a good motivation tool I sometimes find, is to use the Nanofaces graph and just try to move up one position in the list of how many words each person has written. The next person in front of me has written 23800 words. So my new goal is to beat that number.
I did not make word count for five years in a row. The first year I didn't know what I was doing at all. The second year I got sick. The third year, I tried a fantasy novel and got bored with it. The fourth year I almost made it and ran out of story. The fifth year the same thing happened. This year I went on this forum and got the encouragement and writing ideas I needed to finish. I've done all six without an outline. I'm going to go into next November with an outline to keep from running out of story.
Glad you gave it a try. Hope to see you here next year. My work schedule makes it hard for me to participate in Journey activities but I get all the emails. I love hearing about other people's stories. My money's on the Journey helping you make goal. Carol CJEGV
-i DID win last year, so there IS that -i wrote 20k more words than i would have written otherwise -i saw something through to the end -i didn't make it to the half way point like i had intended for my end goal...but i do not have regrets because instead of writing those last 5k in words...reading a good book for 4.5 hours was just as good -there is always next year -there is always camp nano wrimo
Am i still bummed? Of course! I am mad at my body for getting that horrible cold the day of the all day write in. I am bummed that i had to host thanksgiving which left no time to write AND THEN 5 days later, had to eat ANOTHER thanksgiving at my in-laws. I am bummed that another factor was the issue of me no longer being medicated for my ADHD, so it was terribly difficult to stay focused...
but...the pros outweigh the cons...and i look forward to camp nano or next year.

It's okay to feel bummed.

That's a great idea!
