Hey everyone, I just wanted to drop by and remind you about the write-in this Saturday at Indian Prairie Public Library in Darien. We'll be in the meeting room from 1-3p and I have some really cool 3D printed prizes ready for word wars. See the picture below!
I got super extra excited to go to this and win one of those, and then I looked at the time, and I managed to schedule an eye exam at 1:45pm that day....in Aurora....no!!!!! I didn't think the write-in would be during the afternoon! I already rescheduled the eye exam once, too.
I'll try to get an earlier appointment if possible, but it's pretty last minute. Damn, I should have looked more closely at write-in times when scheduling that appointment.
I am thinking about swinging by after Cee-Bee's morning write-in at the Woodridge Park District (where I am providing the little figurine prizes), picking up a quick lunch at Culver's along the way (anyone want to join me?). I do have to confirm these plans with my daughter (she is coming home from college for Thanksgiving), but I think it might be okay (and I am far, far behind where I need to be).
They're kind of like a real-life Minecraft terrain generator! Except the terrain is all the same material and it's not randomly generated but built off of a computer prototype. Each "pixel" is a dot, and it fills in the dots on the X and Y axis with melted plastic, then it moves up 1 unit on the Z axis and fills in the X and Y axis again. At least, that's how I understand them. They're great if you want cheap plastic doodads, (like word war prizes!) but not so great if you want quality materials. Once we figure out how to economically 3D print in metal, wood, glass, and other materials, then I might be interested in getting one. :)
I actually know the basic concept behind them, and in fact I have a couple friends that are trying to start a business involving 3d printers, but I don't know how to operate them. I know they had a heck of a time getting their own 3d printer to print properly, due to amisalignment of certain parts. I'd be fine just using a library's 3D printer, I just need to figure out the process.
See if your home library has one! The design is available for free on Thingiverse & you can either print it yourself or submit it to your library for printing, if they have one available for the public.
Be careful out there today, everyone. The roads are super slick, and visibility is pretty low. A car slammed into me today while driving locally, so I canceled my eye appointment and Indian Prairie is just too far away from me in this snow, sadly.
Much better chances for everyone else to win a trophy since I'm not going to be there, though :P.

Cool! I'll try to swing by. Did you print those yourself or did you order them from one of those 3D-printing companies I've heard so much about?

We printed them here at the library :)

Libraries have 3D printers now?Gosh golly, am I behind on the times!
Can't bump up the appointment. Oh well. I'll have to try to figure out how these 3D printers work, because those areawesome.

Hey me and John might meet you at Culvers. Give me a call or text when you are in your way.
Turns out I won't be able to come. Sad panda. I have a riding lesson that runs to 2:30 and this wouldn't be able to get to IIPL until 3.

I see your prizes and raise you library provided pizza at the Helen Plum Library in Lombard right now.
But yeah, watch the snow. Totally already hit something today.
