Because these pages get wiped before November, we keep our early planning information at:

We have several prep sessions planned for October, and we're starting to schedule write-ins that will occur during November. And don't miss our Kick-off party. See the above links for details.
Now is a good time to start thinking about what you're going to write this year. Do you have an idea? A few characters? A complete outline? Remember, you can do all sorts of prep and planning prior to November 1st.

Brian!
Great to hear that you're back in town and doing NaNo again! Sorry I missed you (and others) at Katherine's Caribou event (one has to take advantage of the few remaining tennis weather nights ;-) ).
I look forward to seeing you and the rest at the October events.

I wasn't expecting the meetings to start quite so soon, so it was a pleasant surprise to discover that a routine coffee shop visit put me in the right place at the right time for the first meeting for the year. It was fun to catch up, meet new people, and get back into the swing of things again.
I moved away to go back to school for two years, but I finally graduated and have moved back here. Found another demanding yet rewarding job, but hopefully I'll find the time, energy, and motivation for a third win this year.
Good luck everyone!

I suggest that she be a paparrazzo. Instead of stalking celebrities, however, she uses long-lens cameras and sneaks into places to debunk American myths... or she's into corporate sabotage, perhaps, or "research" for the French. Perhaps she is part of a French ministry to determine the secrets to American cultural success (or whatever contributes to their military victories)? After all! Who can resist a delicious doughnut left on the battlefield? OMNOMNOM. Hungry Marine needs carbs!

Another plug here for:
Writing Excuses: This is an excellent podcast series covering many basics of writing in a 15 minute discussion between several New York Times bestselling authors (Brandon Sanderson, Dan... someone) and a distinguished web comic writer/artist (Howard). Plot and structure get discussed quite a bit, and it's worth listening to them discuss the different options and methods.
Plot & Structure: A book from Writer's Digest that covers the essentials of plot and structure (surprise!) in helpful, descriptive detail. I highly recommend this to aspiring writers and those trying to understand the fundamentals, work on them, and play with the different elements.

Katherine, we've found another plot point for you! Your French, Peptobismol lover needs to have a stalker camera. Why? Because she's going to be in Russian trying to locate the one Dunkin' Donuts express on Adak Island, specifically created for the cruise ship visitors and crab fisherman.

We're at Caribou on September 21 -- with apple cider doughnuts make fresh in Michigan this morning--thanks to AmaranthMuse (Heather).
And I just got more conflict in my novel. It involves pepto-bismo because it is pink, not because the teenager drank too much. (Had to be here for this to make sense. Thanks, Squiddish!)
We may talk about different techniques, such as:

Squiddish is back with a vengeance! (Ironically, that's one of the themes in my novel... Hmmm.)
After two years off, I'm ready to come back and kick butt this year... ;) And I do plan on being at the Wednesday get-together, if all goes according to plan. Looking forward to this year, guys! I've missed ya!

Doing NaNoWriMo Again: Get Together to Talk
Join fellow writers and talk about what worked and what didn't last
year or in previous years and start figuring out your plans for
reaching 50K this year. The usual prep sessions (plot, character, etc)
are scheduled at:
http://naperwrimo.org/wiki/index.php?title=2011_Events
This session will not have a formal presentation although you may get
useful hints about outlining and making the time to
complete a novel in November.
Wednesday, September 21st – 6:00 – 8:00 At Caribou in Naperville (1523 North Aurora Road, Naperville)
I may schedule more if there is interest.
