For those of you who may be watching other people's word counts with a mixture of awe and resentment, I'd like to be clear that I admire everyone who is steadily writing, regardless of what their word count is.
There is an entire month to write, and if you're making progress, or even going down a wrong turn but plugging away, go you!

Don't get thrown by someone who has already 'won' NaNo.

Your book is still waiting to be brought forth.

This is a contest, but people win in a variety of ways and there are many, many winners. I hope you're one of them.

If you want to really feel inspired, look at FinBarrMcG's word count. He's stayed above the line all week, but just above, despite having a family of over-achievers. Our son did 10,000 the first day. Our daughter is at 12K with a full load of high school classes and after school activities, and don't even get me started on what a pain I am to be around this month. :)

I admire him. (And I still resent him for the year that he finished his first draft before I did, so while I might have 'won' earlier, I was still trying to get the book to a reasonable first draft ending and he was completely and totally done.)

So write. Winning is in your hands.

Thanks for the post, Katherine.

I've been down on myself for not getting out there and doing 1607 a day or whatever for the last 2-3 days, but I do keep on writing, which is the important thing. I'll get there eventually. I do things at my own pace, so I think I'm just going to write whenever I can and try to catch up that way. :)
