Are you behind? An overachiever? Wanting to write a bunch during the upcoming Thanksgiving festivities? All three? Well, then you may want to take part in this year's fantastic 18K challenge!
How does it work, Tim? Tell us, tell us!
Well, in the final six days of NaNoWriMo 2016 (November 25-30 inclusive), just write 18,000 words (averaging 3000 words per day).
That seems like an awful lot!
Yes, I know. Yet people jump in and try it; and a surprising number of them succeed!
Why in the world do I want to do this?
Because it will help motivate you to complete your novel, plus you will win one of the special 18K award 1" buttons (which Sam and I made down at the 95th Street Library).
What if I write 36K in six days?
If you do, thentell me what little sculpey critter you'd like me to create and I'll make it for you.
How do I sign up?
Just post in this thread and you will automatically be signed up!
Please add me. I have a lot of words to catch up and win! But I am committed to win. Right now I only have about 12k words. It's a long road to reach the 50k and only a few days left. I'm going to try to do it! That means I have 1 week to write 38k words. I can do it, right? Here goes.
Thank you so much for this challenge. I had been running out of steam on my writing and thought I would not be able to complete my third novella this year. (Yeah, I'm a tad bit of a rebel this year.) But in my efforts to make the 18,000 word challenge I've made excellent progress on the plot and hope with a good write-in in Plainfield tonight to bring my story to a conclusion. I'm so close I can almost taste the sweet satisfaction of a story told.
And it was your challenge that pushed me to reach down and push my way through the doldrums of late November.

Congratulations to everyone for their great efforts in this 18k challenge!
writergirlmel and writertodd07, please let me know what sculpey thing you want in addition to your button.
If you won't be able to make it to the TGIO (where the buttons will be handed out), send me a nanomail and we'll see how best to get the button to you.

Add me please. I need some added motivation.
Thanks Tim.
I'll give it a try.
Sure, Let's do this thing.
Count me in. I still have a lot more I want to write.
I'm a masochist! I mean, I want to join, too!
Yes! I've been dreading looking at my wc, this is exactly what I need to motivate me!
I'm in!
I was wondering when this challenge would show up. As usual, I need that much and then some to win, so.. Of course I'm in.
I better join if I want to win. So yeah, I'm in.
Yak! I am such a sucker for both graphs and buttons! I don't think there is any way I'll be able to do this, but I'll never know unless I try, right?
Me, please! The only way I'll make 50K is if I write (more than) 18K in the next few days. Ahhhhh!!
The challenge is now live!
I tried, but I think the 18k challenge will elude me this year.
Hey, it's not over yet! Don't you dare give up!
I'm going to keep writing, but there's no reasonable way I can write 9k words today and tomorrow. :(
Yeah I'm doubting I can make 6000 words tomorrow, but who knows how many we can get? Maybe we can get between 6000 and 9000 between the two of us?
If we can reach 6000 between us, I'd happily donate my word count to you so you can get a button.

I see I came the closest to 18k without going over. That makes me... First Loser! I win! :D
Congrats and thanks for offering to share words with me.
Maybe next year.
