In honor of election day, I'd like to challenge everyone to put a reference to voting in their novels. Maybe your character can't go to school and pull off the epic prank she's been planning for months because it's closed for voting. Maybe your character forgets to vote, and would have been the tie-breaking ballot. Maybe your world holds its first-ever election after the fall of the monarchy... or maybe it holds its last?
Here's mine:
"The Centurions swept in like a locust swarm and destroyed everything in that stellar system. From space stations to whole cities, right down to individual cars and even the animals. If it had a human influence, it was gone. The only thing to prove the system had ever been there in the first place were voting records and a few scattered references to in other historic documents."
I'm participating in your voting challenge by brainstorming more about this onegovernment in my story world. I realized that some things I had planned don't really work with the system I had thought up, so now I have to figure out if things are voted on or mandated by a central ruler, and if certain events even have an impact on the government at all. Ohhhhh plot holes~
