Many thanks to CoffeeChick, ML for Houston, for the original message that I've only lightly tweaked!
So you've reached 50k words! Huzzah!!!!! Now's the time to validate your novel to become an official NaNoWriMo 2015 winner (and qualify for some of the winner's goodies from various sponsors). Here's how to do it:
At the top of our site, where you normally enter your word count, click I am ready to validate my novel.
Copy the entire text of your 50,000-word novel and paste it into the validator box. (For your privacy, novels are never stored on our servers. We just count the words!)
Click Validate.
It's that simple. You may still have some questions, though:
Can I keep updating my word count after I've validated my novel?
Yes! Just because you hit 50K doesn't mean you have to stop writing. Once you've validated, though, you can update your word count in the normal fashion (you don't have to validate again).
I know you said you'd never store my novel, but I'm still iffy on pasting the whole of my blood, sweat, & tears on the site. Is there another option?
To protect your privacy and rights to your work, none of the novels submitted to our site are read by another human. The text is submitted to our server, run through our word-count validator, and then immediately deleted. This means we do not keep any copies of your novel, so be sure to back up your hard work. But to answer your question, yes!You can post your wordage on a scrambler sitesuch asText Mechanicand then copy the scrambled letters onto the NaNoWriMo verification page.
Ok but that's still putting my novel somewhere on the internet and-
An alternate option is to use a random-text generator such asLipsum.com. This is also helpful if you've hand-written your novel or written your novel in a different language whose words might not be easily counted on the site. Now, let's get that novel validated! :D
How do I validate my novel if I've written it by hand?
First, have a trusted friend verify the number of words youve written (you can count the number of words per page (do this for a few and take an average) and then multiply by the number of pages). Then, using arandom-text generator, submit the same number of words as your handwritten manuscript to our word-count validator.
Why is there a discrepency between my writing program's word count and the Nanowrimo word counter?
No two word-counting devices are exactly the same, and this does lead to some discrepancies. To check your writing programs word counter against ours, click Check Word Count in the My NaNoWriMo menu. Please be sure to check your count on our validator prior to the end of the month. We dont want you to be surprised during last-minute validation.
When do I get my winners goodies?
They should be available on the homepage sometime in the first week after NaNo ends.
It is after Nov 30th and I forgot to validate my novel. What do I do?
There will be a thread on theTech Forumfor thisafter Nov 30th and Nano HQ will verify your word count and update your profile with a "win"!
I have an issue not mentioned above. Who do I talk to?
Having trouble validating? Post your issue on theTech Forumand the Nano web gurus will help you.
I've validated at 292,157 words for this month, putting me at 1,011,573 lifetime. (My private goal was to break one million lifetime.)
My smallest day was Day 1 with 2,274 words while my biggest day was yesterday (yay for escaping from reality!) with 22,648 words. My daily average was 12,173 words.
Now, I'm going to break for a few days and then return to my usual snail-like pace (because, man, I'm tired).
