Anyone attempting NaNo with kids? I've been trying to wake up at 5 a.m. to write, which has been working great except for the mornings my 4 yo wakes up at 5:30. So I hit my word count at KidsTown this morning. The Wheaton Library also has a nice play area. I haven't had to resort to the McDonald's play space yet -- keeping that one in my back pocket if needed in a moment of desperation later. :)
I don't have my OWN kids (except for my wittle cutie of a dog)...but i nanny/babysit for 3 kids and often times...NO writing gets done when there is a constant barrage of
HURRY UP!
where are your shoes?!
why aren't you ready yet?
HOW COME YOU HAVEN'T EATEN YOUR DINNER!
Ugh! why do you wait until the last minute to tell me these things!
if you don't start your homework like i asked, i am taking your cell phone!
not right now, i have to finish cooking dinner!
What part of NOT RIGHT NOW don't you understand?!
watch your tone, young lady!
AND DO NOT STOMP UP THE STAIRS
OR SLAM YOUR DOOR
I sent you upstairs to take your shower 30 minutes ago! what gives!
and sometimes, by the time it is all said and done and i DO have a minute to myself, i am too mentally taxed out to WANT to write!!!
Don't blink. Blink and your dead. They are fast. Faster than you can believe. Don't turn your back, Don't look away, and don't blink!
Now I know what I have to look forward too, lol! That's why I'm trying to write in the mornings before work. In the evenings, I'm like, "Tardis, take me away!"
Kids are great once they are old enough to write and if they like to write. My daughter started NaNo'ing when she was 9 or 10. She's the reason we have stuffed animals in our region. :-)

If ONLY we could just find a handsome doctor who would just whisk us away in a little blue box...ignore our responsibilities until we are ready to deal with them. Imagine how much writing we could do if we went to exotic planets. imagine the inspiration!
