Am I the only one who deletes pep talks without reading them? I know they're meant to inspire and motivate, but more often than not I find them somehow off-putting. Here are people giving advice--and they are really convinced of the efficacy of that advice, mind you--that I don't find particularly helpful on a good day, and downright depressing on other days Am I the only one that feels this way?
I only read one or two prep talks a year at most and only if I read a book by that author. I can't get myself to care otherwise.
Did you ever read the Lemony Snicket prep talk from a few years ago? It's a lot less peppy than the norm. http://nanowrimo.org/pep-talks/lemony-snicket
I'll skim them if they're by an author I know, but I rarely find them useful. I do remember enjoying theLemony Snicket one. I find the support of the regions to be far more peppy and helpful.
One of the best things about not being an ML is not having to read the official news/pep talks, etc from NaNo. I get great pleasure out of clicking 'delete' on them this year. :)

I can't say I find themdepressing, but I don't particularly find them that helpful either. I mostly just skim them.
What I could really use instead is a daily mind-reading plot problem epiphany generator!
Oh man that would besweet!
I find the pep talks, too long and too boring. They are a waste of time when I would rather be writing.

It seems as if the pep has long disappeared from the pep talks. That being said, I do read them, but some are better than others.
A lot of them do seem pretty dour, now that you mention it. Maybe that's why I find them so depressing.

I like the stuff from the MLs, though.
Yeah, those are usually worthwhile. Probably because they are more relevant. :)
