I will be hosting the write-ins at the Glen Ellyn Public Library every Tuesday evening in November from 5-9 pm. The write-in space is on the second floor in a room big comfy leather chairs.
Bring your laptop, or pen and notebook. Bring a snack. Bring a drink. Bring whatever you need for a evening of writing.
We will have Huzzah bombs, word wars, and the box of doom: see naperwrimo.org/writeins for more information. There will be snack prizes of candy and meats for word war and box of doom winners.
Reminder - I will be hosting the write-in at the Glen Ellyn Public Library tonight from 5 to 9.
Besides the opportunity to win meat, you will also have the chance to win something I find essential to writing 50,000 words in a month. You'll have to come to the write-in to find out what that is.
Beside the comfy leather chairs and a place to write for four hours, the Glen Ellyn Library has provided free bagels and coffeeforthose attending tonight's write-in. We are setup on the 2nd floor of the library in the lounge.
The room is full at the moment, but folks are planning to leave early. I will post when seats become available. There are plenty of other quiet places in the library to write, if you're still planning to come out..
I had to choose between the Glen Ellyn Library and College of Dupage for today's write-in, and I ended up going with COD due to it starting a bit later.
The facility was great. Big room with laptops and wifi provided in one of the labs in the library. Parking is a bit of a hike but not as bad as during the day.
The college provided us with writing experts and a few adjunct professors. One of them even gave a presentation about writing dos and donts along with some basics to start us off. Very patient with me as I asked a lot of beginner questions.
The downside is that only one other person showed up if you don't count faculty. A student with some great ideas and awesome views on a variety of topics. The last few hours were spent in total silence.
They highlighted that the college has a load of good resources and a weekly writing group. NaNoWrimo became more of a side note.
If we could get some more people to show up I think its a great place to facilitate getting your write on, but if no one actually shows up then I think I will come to the Glen Ellyn Library Write-ins even if I have to arrive late. I'd rather leech everyones Nano energy to hold me over for a week and get less writing done than sit quietly in a classroom.
I'm planning on going to the one next Tuesday. I really like Glen Ellyn library, but I couldn't go this week because I had a seminar I wanted to attend at Microsoft that ended up being extremely useful for work.
Thanks for providing a write-up on COD write-in. I do plan on going to the COD write-in next week, since it is on a Wednesday and does not conflict with the write-in I'm hosting at the Glen Ellyn Library on Tuesday nights.
COD also doesn't allow food on pain of death, apparently. It's tough when there are low numbers because it's hard to write, like JT says.
If there's another person, you can still ask writing Qs, though. (At GE, people occasionally asked Qs in the full room but were still generally quiet to let people write or eat delicious caramel apples.)
What a great turn out we had last night at the Glen Ellyn Public Library write-in. Twelve writersattended. Unfortunately, we only had eight comfy leather chair. BUT -the Glen Ellyn Public Library has agreed to reservean additional roomfor the remaining write-ins. So from the next three Tuesdays we will also have theShakespeare room, which is one of the adjacent rooms, We won't be able to hear each other in the separate rooms, but we will be able to make faces at one another and occasionally turns the lights off to distract and annoy the writers in the other room. With this additional space, we will be able to accommodate up to 20 writers.

A couple of seat have freed up and we started taking over other sections of the library. Soon the library will be ours.
I'm heading out now. Should be there in half an hour.
Thanks!

...Well, no. No one ate the apples there.
That's my real word count.
