Please respond to this thread with how long you plan to come for the all-day write-in. You don't have to stay from 9-9.
It's in Meeting Rooms BC, Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle Street, Naperville, IL on Friday the 13th starting at 9 a.m. and going until 9 p.m. (Last year they said we could park all day in the upper parking lot.)
If you'd like to bring food to share, an indication can help with organization. Just reply to this thread and I'lleditthis google document with the details.
I'll try to be there the whole day but I might not roll in until 10am because I'm not a morning person. I'll probably bring something to share, but I don't know what yet.
Is there going to be a microwave and a refrigerator again?
i will TRY to be there the entire time...I am not a morning person BUT...if the event is super exciting for me i can get myself to come early!...i MAY...like last year, leave for 2ish hours while I leave to go to my babysitting job...and then return.
Like last year, I can bring some coffee mugs (i hope i to own a few more Doctor Who mugs by then), tea, I can try my hand at egg omelette muffins...I can also supply blankets/supplies so we can make a blanet fort again...(i need to google "structural integrity of blanket forts" so we can have an awesome one this year...maybe with a tardis towel as our front door...*snort*)
for sure, count me in for blankets/supplies.maybe pillows if i can fit it all... because even if it's not used for writing...it can be used to chit chat...lol. I'll bring food to share...not sure what..but those egg omelette muffins sound delish...unless i want to make something in a crock pot...like beef stew...
Don't blink. Blink and your dead. They are fast. Faster than you can believe. Don't turn your back, Don't look away, and don't blink!
I'm game for this cause I'm off on this day and I love this event more than anything. I will bring some of my tea and maybe something else will have to see. I probably be there noon-ish cause I can't get up in mornings XD

NO!!! NO NO!!! I CAN'T GET UP IN THE MORNINGS EITHER! but i still plan to get there at 9ish!! Nano demands it! or...hot tea in a fandom cup DEMANDS IT...and if that is STILL not enough and you STILL get sleepy...i'll have a blanket fort. crawl in it and go back to bed

I'm devastated about this. I had a sitter all lined up (my mom) and then my family scheduled my Grandpa's funeral services for 11:30 AM that day.
I'm going to try to make it out after but as of right now it isn't looking good, I probably wouldn't make it until about 5/6. If I make it I will definitely bring a treat of some kind.
I actually took that day off from work, so we'll see if I can make it, though there's no way I'm staying all day as the furry children need me. I'll try to roll in around lunchtime and bring some "tactical sammiches." :)
I'll be there. I thought I was going to be able to make the whole thing, but then I realized that I have trivia night at 7pm....and it's my turn to bring the questions, so I need to be there. :( So, I'll probably stay through late afternoon. I will bring something snacky. Sorry. Not sure if that will be sugar or more healthy. Kind of depends on how I'm feeling in the week preceding.
Alas, I can't take off the day. I'll try to stop by late in the afternoon for a little while (I have an event to go to in the evening).

Meeting rooms BC do indeed have the little kitchenette area with the microwave and fridge.
I have to work, but my shift is from 11-7, so I'll stop in first thing in the morning for a bit and then again when I get off work. I'll bring hummus and something to dip in it, and leave it all day for you long-haulers.
Hello this is Michelle A. Butler from GW & MH PUBLICATIONS. I may be at the event for about 2-3 hours if that's fine. My contact info is mbutler0609@gmail.comand 313-459-1743.
Dear Kathryn: I am unable to attend this year. It sounds like such a cool writing day. I have many pulls from family keeping me from traveling too far or too long from home. I should be making both Lombard Coffee house write ins. Carol CJEGV
Thank you for leading this, Katherine. I plan to stay for about 5 hours. I will probably break it up a bit by coming in the morning, going out for a quick lunch, and then coming back for a couple of hours in the early afternoon.
welp, if you can't make it to the other write in-s...I'll see you at the all day write in! (i vote you bring sugary treats!!! they will go well with whatever tea i bring!)
Don't blink. Blink and your dead. They are fast. Faster than you can believe. Don't turn your back, Don't look away, and don't blink!

Sorry you can't make it. Unfortunately, I don't think I can make it to Lombard Coffee house this year.
At this point, I'm free all day and have no other plans so....I'll probably be there for most of it. Expect some type of goodies. I'll probably bring my own mug and tea bags to share, and it's not that big of a deal to make a cake/cookies for day munchies and then also bring a dozen bagels or so from Panera for the morning.
I know for sure i will bring TONS of blankets so if anyone needs a blanket fort to hide away in...and i may supply pillows..i may scour the house for more blankets people can just use at their chairs...i will also bring lose leaf tea, sugar cubes and geek-tastic mugs...is anyone bringing an electric kettle? otherwise...microwave water is ok too...
I can't decide if i will bring food to share...as my brain is already fried from writing...but you can definitely expect blankets...because i'm excited to write in a blanket fort!
and again, like last year...i'll probably leave all my stuff when I leave for work at 3...so i can babysit until 5:30.
Don't blink. Blink and your dead. They are fast. Faster than you can believe. Don't turn your back, Don't look away, and don't blink!
A change in my plans (due to various meetings that have popped up on my schedule): I'll plan on dropping by for an early writing lunch 10:30 am-12:30 pm; I'll bring cuties to share/leave.
Thanks for setting this up. I will probably come late in the morning (10:30? 11?) and stay until early evening (5 or 6 pm) with a break to go out for lunch and maybe a walk.
I can bring tiny muffins if we think people will eat them. I have some smoked gouda, too.
I would be delighted to bringa ukulele for people to play in the blanket fort, if we have one. Naturally we won't be playing ukulele if people don't have headphones, though. The only thing more distracting to writers who are trying to work would be a bagpipe or banjo player.
I just made a delicious japanese curry at work today, and i figured out how to modify it for a slow cooker...I could totally bring my rice cooker, as well as a slow cooker full of curry...
but i'll have to see what else is being brought...but mmmm curry sounds good
Don't blink. Blink and your dead. They are fast. Faster than you can believe. Don't turn your back, Don't look away, and don't blink!
So by chance I ended up volunteering for something at work that would give me the afternoon off (I go back in the evening), so I'm planning to come in from 1-5pm now, approximately. Maybe slightly more or less depending on how rested I feel. I'll try to bring something I can pick up on the way.

Ok...i WILL bring slow cooker curry...and i'll bring my rice cooker
i will also bring tons of blankets, perhaps pillows lose leaf tea and mugs flatware (sans forks, ran out of forks at the kick off party XD)
i will ALSO provide: one 2" binder, and two 1.5" binders...FULL TO THE BRIM with writing references. I just had a meeting called from 11-noon to go with the one from 1-2, so I will not be there for lunch. I will try to stop by for a brief visit after my 1-2 pm meeting ends but won't be able to stay very long---sorry!
I'll still bring cuties (hey, they have vitamin C :-) )
If anyone needs a stretch break at some point, (and who wouldn't?) I would be more than happy to teach you how to dance the Roger Rabbit and/or Gangnam Style!
Hey, all! I finally got my new work schedule for this weekend. I'm getting off at 3, so I'll come over after that and probably stay until 9pm. I doubt I'll bring communal food though, since I'll be coming off a long shift and heading right over.
Thanks for hosting, Katherine - see you there! (^_^)
I'm going to try to be there in the morning. Regardless of when I get there, I will be there until close to 9 I think. Sorry for the late response. I can pick up bagels or something. D:
Don't worry, my crock pot is FILLED to the brim with japanese curry, and i am bringing a rice cooker and LOTS of rice...even if the curry runs out...people can eat rice! haha!
I also decided it was with in my means to make honey corn muffins. for all us breakfast people who believe that muffins, eggs, and the like are breakfast foods...though, the muffins would go GREAT with teh curry

For all -- if you haven't signed up but decide to stop by for a bit-- feel free!
(You can still respond to this thread--up to you.)
Don't worry if you don't have food--it was more to encourage sharing than a requirement.
Don't worry if you don't end up staying as long as you planned -- or feel free to take breaks. I intend to. (I'm bringing my heavy coat so I can take walks along the river.)
So far, plenty of food, i brought japanese curry and there is rice cooking to go with it...not only did Katherine bring tea, i brought flavors as well....and mugs (for all you geeky people out there) to share (but, i keep them by me because i'd rather keep an eye on them lol!)
i am ready!!!

I'll be leaing work at 1... so I'll probably be there around 2.
I'll stop at the grocery store on my way if there is something specific that you guys want me to bring food with. Otherwise I'll probably just grab some chips or something?
I don't have to work, (thank goodness)...so i can stay all day...and for those that are in LOVE with the curry that i brought...
My friend (where the recipe came from) is allowing me to post her recipe! As an FYI: it does take a bit of work...but it's worth it!!
Japanese Curry aka Tiki (Tikka?) Masala: courtesy of Katherine Luttmer
Roux: 3 Tbs butter 1/4 c flour 2 Tbs garam masala (or curry powder, I used garam masala) 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (add less if you want it mild or more if you want it spicy) fresh ground black pepper 1 Tbs ketchup (or tomato paste, I used tomato paste because I had an open can) 1 Tbs worcestershire sauce
Actual Curry: 2 tsp oil 2 large onions sliced thin 2 lbs chicken thighs cleaned and cut into chunks (you could also use beef, shrimp, or tofu) 2 carrots cut into chunks 4 C water 2 large yukon gold potatoes cut into large chunks 1 small apple peeled cored and pureed (I use a microplane) 2 tsp kosher salt (use less if you use regular salt) 1 tsp garam masala 1/2 c frozen peas
To serve: Nice rice. Mmm, rice.
In a large saucepan, heat the oil over medium-low. Add onions and saute until caramelized and golden brown (aww yeah). Turn up the heat to high, add the chicken, and brown it.
Add the carrots and water. Cover, and bring to a boil. Skim off any oil or that foamy stuff and turn down the heat to medium. Add the potatoes and apple, salt, and garam masala. Cover again and simmer about 30 minutes (or until the carrots and potatoes are nice and tender, as is the meat).
While that simmers, start the roux! In a small sauce pan, melt the butter over medium-low heat. Add the flour and cook until the flour starts to brown. It should smell like fresh bread baking, sorta like walking into Jimmy Johns or Subway.
Add the garam masala and stir. Add the cayenne and a little fresh ground pepper, but don't do what I did and breathe in the steam. NOT FUN. Add the tomato paste (or ketchup) and Worcestershire sauce and combine. Remove from heat and set aside until the veggies and meat are ready.
Ladle two cups of the meat-n-veggie liquid into the roux and whisk until it's smooth. I usually put the liquid into a measuring cup and go slowly, but you CAN dump it all in at once. Once it's all together, pour the sauce into the larger sauce pan with the meat and veggies and stir until it's nice and thick. Add the peas, cook them through, then serve over rice. :)
MY note: She says 1/2 tsp of cayenne pepper...but that was too hot for me...adjust according to your taste...maybe skip the cayenne pepper in the roux and add it in when you are near done (when you add the peas)...so you can add a little at a time until it's to your liking

No need for chips. We have a couple of bags. You don't have to bring food, but if you'd like to, maybe something with protein or vegetables? (We still have chicken salad left and we've been munching on bagels, muffins, sandwiches, curry, rice, etc.)
Change of plans for me, unfortunately. Car broke down on the way to my new job. Waiting for my ride home now and will have to be with everyone in spirit!
Shooting to hit that magical 50k mark by the end of the weekend and was looking forward to a boost from today's event.
You are doing great! I got some writing completed over my lunch break but won't get back to writing until about 6:30 PM tonight. Then I hope I'll have energy for another couple hours of writing. I am feeling more in the flow and under a lot less internal pressure than previous years. That's a nice feeling.
i barely got any writing done, as i felt something...something wasn't right. Sure enough, i can confirm it. The eldest girl i nanny for passed on her nasty cold...(i thought an hour nap in the car would help...as maybe i was just tired! NOPE!)...my throat is killing me. Whether my throat has it in me to say a good bye is ???
So, I'm just going to head out...my curry is still on the counter...as are my corn muffins...i really don't care about either..as still have left over curry at home! I may see some of you at sunday's write in...depending on how i feel...or maybe tomorrow at the mid month meet up, if i feel better...
But now, i am going to head home and wallow in my whining and complaints..
i hate being sick D: and I despise the girl who GOT me sick!!!

You know... all day I've been grumpy. Car broke down. Had to wait in the cold and wind for a tow. Got to training at my brand new job 90 minutes late. Got teamed up with someone so slow I swear I could have taken orders faster typing with my toes. Hubby was late picking me up, so another half hour in the cold wind. Couldn't go to the write-in because I had to be picked up and taken home. Had to go get the stuff I left behind in my morning ride's car that I couldn't take in to work with me. Couldn't go to the library to write because it's Friday, and they all close by 6pm. The only good place to write at home tonight is in the cold basement with the turtle, and his water filter always makes me have to pee!
Finally got homeagain and discovered all the chaos going on in Paris.
Those who didn't make it missed an absolutely beautiful performance of Gangnam Style. And by "beautiful" I mean "hilariously bad" but we had so much fun! :)
Thanks for organizing the All Day Write In. You had a really great turn out. It's a great idea and although I wasn't able to be there as long I wanted, I still got a respectable amount of work done. It was also good to see everyone.

I can handle allergies, but this cough that I have is killing me. Seriously, I don't want to pass it on to anyone else.
If anyone needs a stretch break at some point, (and who wouldn't?) I would be more than happy to teach you how to dance the Roger Rabbit and/or Gangnam Style!
I will do my best to make it after work tomorrow around 6pm. Not sure how long I will be able to stick around though.
Hey, all! I finally got my new work schedule for this weekend. I'm getting off at 3, so I'll come over after that and probably stay until 9pm. I doubt I'll bring communal food though, since I'll be coming off a long shift and heading right over.
Thanks for hosting, Katherine - see you there! (^_^)
I must be getting tired. I read that you were bringing humans to dip. ROFL!

Come write.
Sorry, all - work is killing me, and I'm not going to be able to make it today. :\ Happy writing!
Just woke up, but will be there in about an hour. Gotta grab bagels for you all and stuff my blankets in the car.

I wish I could join you but for a minor thing like work. Crank out those words - but may they be readable and push your plots forward. Happy noveling!
Go one . . . Go All!
HI, I'm here just arriving shortly before 11am. Hope to stay until at least around dinnertime...this is Barb Dill-Varga, alias bdillvarga.
Happy writing all!
I'll be leaing work at 1... so I'll probably be there around 2.
I'll stop at the grocery store on my way if there is something specific that you guys want me to bring food with. Otherwise I'll probably just grab some chips or something?
I'll probably stay until 6-7ish
I don't have to work, (thank goodness)...so i can stay all day...and for those that are in LOVE with the curry that i brought...
My friend (where the recipe came from) is allowing me to post her recipe! As an FYI: it does take a bit of work...but it's worth it!!
Japanese Curry aka Tiki (Tikka?) Masala: courtesy of Katherine Luttmer
Roux:
3 Tbs butter
1/4 c flour
2 Tbs garam masala (or curry powder, I used garam masala)
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (add less if you want it mild or more if you want it spicy)
fresh ground black pepper
1 Tbs ketchup (or tomato paste, I used tomato paste because I had an open can)
1 Tbs worcestershire sauce
Actual Curry:
2 tsp oil
2 large onions sliced thin
2 lbs chicken thighs cleaned and cut into chunks (you could also use beef, shrimp, or tofu)
2 carrots cut into chunks
4 C water
2 large yukon gold potatoes cut into large chunks
1 small apple peeled cored and pureed (I use a microplane)
2 tsp kosher salt (use less if you use regular salt)
1 tsp garam masala
1/2 c frozen peas

Ah well. Life happens. WriMo on!!!
You are doing great! I got some writing completed over my lunch break but won't get back to writing until about 6:30 PM tonight. Then I hope I'll have energy for another couple hours of writing. I am feeling more in the flow and under a lot less internal pressure than previous years. That's a nice feeling.
Hope you have your best day this year!
i barely got any writing done, as i felt something...something wasn't right.

Suddenly my day doesn't seem so bad after all.

Those who didn't make it missed an absolutely beautiful performance of Gangnam Style. And by "beautiful" I mean "hilariously bad" but we had so much fun! :)
Katherine,
Thanks for organizing the All Day Write In. You had a really great turn out. It's a great idea and although I wasn't able to be there as long I wanted, I still got a respectable amount of work done. It was also good to see everyone.
Thanks again,
Whitey
I only caught the end of it but it was definitely something 'special'.
But it got the blood pumping a bit, and that's what counts.
man!! i left JUST before you did it! damn, you sore throat! you made me miss out on fun tiemz!!
oh well, i get to spend the day congested...wishing i could do this thing called "breathing"
