This is very similar to the just-concluded 18k challenge, where 16 of you scraped and clawed and dug deep to write 18,000 words in just six days. The big differences here:
you only have three days (November 28, 29, 30)
if you win, you win a penguin! (the newest batch of the ones below came out very grey, but I am thinking of possibly painting them... just imagine: a gold penguin or a rainbow penguin or a blue penguin...)
Why do I want a penguin so badly???
Owls are cute but penguins with their little wobbly walk and their stubby wings--they look like they are searching for a home. One of them wants to come home with you...
How do I enter?
Just post in this thread! You will be automatically added to the graph (though I will need to manually provision you there afterwards).
Good luck, everyone! I just saw that we are tied with OCGR (aarrgh!) so we need your words!
Anyone who writes 20K in the final three days will win a special big-headed tyrannosaur (just thought of a very cute design!).
My hands have fallen off, but I suppose I can write write with my feet and with my tough. I still have limbs to abuse, so I shall write on, but, those Michigan people.... They're mean. They have some one that has written almost 300K. Uh, that person... We'll I hope they eat too much and go into food coma and they fall asleep until December 5, and that way they can't write these last few days.
Oh, oh, oh, what happened to my good thoughts, psychopath I tell you, I've turned into a psychopath.
I'm in! Wait - is it 9k a day? Or 9k in 3 days (3k a day). I think I know what you mean but I didn't see it put that way. My brain is mush. It was toast until I spilled some coffee...

9k in three days (3k a day). But if you want to write 9k a day, I'll take it ;-)
Didn't get the owl, but hey, penguins are awesome too. Especially to a Muppet fan like me. Trust me. Penguins are essential to the entire Muppet philosophy. I mean it. Essential. Besides, I'm not even at the halfway point yet. And... penguins are awesome. Did I mention the awesomeness of penguins yet? Because... yes.
Okay, I think the cats in the apartment sensed I was serious, because I had vomiting and a bite in 5 min. I may have to give myself some time outs in a closed room to finish. Anyone of know of any music with subliminal music to calm cats?

DayonaAdrie, are you with the Michigan group??? Are you a robot???Because your word count is more than 450K. Um, you're a Robot right??? I'm competing with a robot... Not fair.... :) I'll ask the Space Aliens for help for the last day, hopefully they'll help me.
I am indeed a proud member of OCGR, and haha I can assure you that I'm not. I know some folks who are close to or have already broken 1.5m this year. Honestly I'm a member with them because in my original region (one of those ones in my state, Louisiana) I was accused of cheating to the point that I had a falling out with them. OCGR's a great group of folks, and from what I can see so is Naperville. I've quite well enjoyed this regional word war, and without it I would have never sat down and wrote both a second and third book for this NaNoWriMo.
The banner didn't exactly work out this year. But. Writing.
Congratulations to mochomito, callalily05 and scrapacat for achieving their penguins so far! Good luck to everyone else--your penguin is within reach! Anyone going for the tyrannosaur?

Glad you found a group you like. I love the Naperville group. I moved further away from them, but, they are so active during the year that it's worth it for a wanna bee professional writer like myself. Yeah, I've seen the million words people on the Facebook groups. The Facebook people seem very nice as well.
By the skin of my teeth! Thanks for that final WW Tim. You are amazing. I know you didn't need to do that tonight so I really appreciate your help with that final push.

I'm still not done, so....
I'm obviously in since I'm impatient and asked about it.

Heehee! I almost did that yesterday and I sprained my brain. Happy turkey day! *tosses confetti*
For the penguin!! My owl will need a pal.
Count me in! I need a push to finish this on time!

I'm in.
I'm not sure that I have 9k of story or brain left, but that penguin is just so cute...
Count me in. I need around 12,500 to finish on time, anyway.
Okay, I think the cats in the apartment sensed I was serious, because I had vomiting and a bite in 5 min. I may have to give myself some time outs in a closed room to finish. Anyone of know of any music with subliminal music to calm cats?
Hey, how come this graph says I need to write 18k?
Oops! My error.
Fixed!
Thanks for reporting that!

You're welcome! Thanks for creating these graphs for us!
I almost wish I could sleep too, Mocho. lol. Looks like lifeatemymuse did go to sleep though, she hasn't written must since breaking 300k.

It ain't over until it's over.
Let the challenge begin!

Phew, that was close. My laptop froze before I could save my next to last set of words. I almost lost about 600 words, but the document was recovered.
The penguin is mine! bwahahahaha
ahem

So I made the rest of the penguins and the two tyrannosaurs:
They are adorable! I'm so glad I get to take one home!
