If you are in this age range right now, what books do you remember reading as a child (like 6,7,8 years old), what was popular when you were growing up? (ie- when I was a kid it was cabbage patch kids and the original Nintendo... but IDK what it would have been for you guys)
A twenty-five year old would have been 6 to 8 in 1995 to 1997. The N64 came out near the end of 1996 so a child was probably still playing there Super Nintendo at that time. I'm 29 so I would have been 10+ during those years, but I remember at that time being into Friends and Beanie Babies. Toy Story was also the big cartoon at the time.
I'm 25. I remember reading the Little Critter series when I was really young and the Babysitter's Club was popular when I was in school (I read the little sister series). Nickelodeon was just starting up in the early 90s and I watched a lot of the original cartoons on there and Cartoon Network. The Saturday morning blocks on networks were pretty great, too. I would sneakily watch the original X-Men series on tv when my mom didn't know (she thought they were too violent).
Beanie Babies were ridiculously popular. Later on, it would be Neopets (fun fact: I still play Neopets). I agree Toy Story was pretty big. This was when Disney had its big comeback with The Little Mermaid, Lion King, and the like.
My advice is to search the phrase "only the 90s kids remember" and you'll find a lot. ;)
I second the Babysitters Club books, but also the Goosebumps series. Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys were the HUGE thing. The olympics in Atlanta were huge. I believe the original Power Rangers movie was out then. Littlest Pet Shop.
Edit: I just remembered while I was looking at my American Girl dolls. Any girl that was someone read those books from the historical line (Felicity, Kirsten, Addy, Samantha, Molly). 1995 was also when the "American Girls of Today" was launched and there were some books with that as well and that was THE doll to have.

Okay so the edit didn't work *rolls eyes*. I thought of this when I walked by my American Girl dolls. The historical line had books (Felicity, Kirsten, Addy, Samantha and Molly) and that was hugely popular as were the dolls themselves. 1995 was the launch of the "American Girl of Today" doll line and omg let me tell you how popular that was in my area. You needed one of those if you were "cool".

Agreed on the American Girls Dolls! That was the big ticket--but so expensive! My mom bought my sisters & I these off-brand "dream dolls" from an online company (online shopping! so new!), which were actually really great and at a fantastic price. We all got ones that we customized to look like us and they had a CD-ROM that came with them. This was one of the first toys to do that, but it became a big thing to have a physical toy and a computer game to go with it.
My brother is the age of your main character, so I'll speak for him: Pokemon and Power Rangers were two huge things for him. I remember having to watch sooooo many Power Rangers episodes back then, and I just kept comparing it to Ninja Turtles and thought it was terribly made in comparison.
That also puts him solidly in the growing up with the Original Game Boy era, and there was a game console in the house since he was born (Nintendo Entertainment System) and also he had dial-upinternet and the very beginnings of the World Wide Web in the house since he was like 8 years old.
How was Neopets the start of writing? I remember doing Neopets years and years ago, but it was a bunch of games. (I got a million points because I used it to releave work stress and work was very stressful at the time. We also went to Disneyworld during that time period since I thought the real Mickey Mouse would be better than the Mickey Mouse stuff at work.)
My MC is twenty five.

I started to reply, then I remembered that I'm 32. And you would not think it, but 7 years is a long time.
Power Rangers was just starting to get big then I remember. Ninja Turtles were fading as a popular thing.
There were the Animorphs But They might have been a little later by a few years. . .

Agreeing with Power Rangers, TMNT, and Goosebumps. We did a LOT of that. Also, we played our Sega all the time because we're old school like that.
Ahhh, Neopets. That was the start of my writing ventures~ I logged on the other day and had nostalgia all over the place.

Ah, I don't miss those days. :)
