Hello! Continuing Education at College of DuPage is hosting write-ins for the first time. A couple of us are writers (don't tell anyone), so we are really excited to bring NaNoWriMo here for the community (and for ourselves!) Come join us!
We will have a traditional classroom - with tables and chairs for those of us who rock a pen and paper - as well as a reserved computer lab for those who just want to bring a flash drive. There is also a lounge area with tables (complete with laptop outlets) and chairs. So, we've got all of the bases covered!
Not to mention we are just steps away from the cafeteria. And there is a coffee shop just up the stairs, which is pretty perfect.
The most direct way to find us to park "behind" the Student Resource Center (SRC), rather than in the lots off of Fawell Drive. There is a lot just behind SRC, named College 3. This will get you as close to the building as possible. Enter through the big bank of glass doors. Cafeteria is just in front of you, to the left. Go right and you'll see a rounded, frosted glass wall. That is the department of Continuing Education. Two big, open doors, with a doorplate that reads: SRC 1110. The reserved rooms and lounge are just through those doors, within our department.
Hope to see you there!
Please get in touch if you have any questions or suggestions!
Thanks for hosting! Your events are marked on our region calendar. So, assuming that the front of the SRC is facing north/up on google maps, is the College 3 lot one of alpha, beta or gamma marked on this satellite view below?
Awesome! As an alumni of COD (and former student body vice-president), I think COD is a great location to have write-ins! Thank you for organizing this!
Thank you for checking in about this. It is such a big place - and the right parking lot is crucial to not getting lost or frustrated. The ideal lot is 'alpha' below. The building we are meeting in is the black-roofedone onthe left, in the top third of the page - right where it says "College of DuPage" on the image. I hope this helps. Thanks so much for posting the map - we're really excited about this!
We will have a special guest writer to do some warm ups at our write-in tomorrow, Saturday 11/8, at COD in SRC 1123.
Laura Ehrke teaches a variety of courses in the field of Writing, all with a focus on unleashing creativity. She holds a BA in Communications from DePaul University and a Master of Liberal Arts degree from the University of Chicago, with supplemental graduate coursework in Writing at Northwestern University. Her writing experience includes fiction and nonfiction, in both print and online platforms. She is excited about her first novel, which is under contract to be published in early 2015. Currently, she is working on two novels: a mystery (that she hopes to turn into a series!); and a sequel to her first novel.
Laura is fantastic - I hope you can join her tomorrow. She will also be leading the warm-up at the Tuesday sessions!

Ada and I are here! Looks like one has to pay attention to the specific room inside the SRC 1110 complex of rooms (see the calendar entry for this). There are outlets around the walls, but folks needing power are advised to bring extension cords and possibly power strips to share.
The class room we're in 1123 is bright and quiet. Looks like no one else is here (we arrived after 1 pm).
Thanks to all of you who came on Saturday! I am sorry to hear about the missed connections! Our guest writer was in the room, but said only one person was there during her visit. She only stayed until about 1 p.m. or so, so maybe she missed you.
We have our second Tuesday write-in today - Laura Ehrke will be here again for the first hour.
Saturday, our own wonderful Cristina Willard (CE's Program Manager and active wrimo) will be there to lead a warm up. She is planning to stick around and write for the session and is intimately familiar with our suite of rooms, so she'll look around for anyone who needs/wants rounding up!
Today's write-in locations (still within the suite, but a door or two down from Saturday's room):
SRC 1125 = tables and chairs
SRC 1133 = computer lab
I'll put up a few signs, leading to the right room and wrangle up some extension cords and power strips from our department for 1125.
I checked out a few fun books from the library and put them in 1125 (on usage, grammar, fun words, etc.)
Thank you for all of your suggestions - hope to see you today!
Melissa
PS: We received our poster, window cling and bookmarks yesterday, so our location looks a little more officially marked :)

lol I've never looked at an aerial view of the campus after all of the construction. I didn't realize what shape the courtyard in front of SRC took :)
Thanks, Melissa!

I'll be trying to make as many of these as I can. I will try hard not to get lost XD
Someday they will find Ron Rifkin entombed beneath the CoD parking lot.

Barry and I were there earlier, but left around 12:45. (We were the only ones there.)
Should have left a note on the board, maybe. :)
"You bought the rumor, you simple minded dilettante!"
I was there earlier, but I had to leave as Katherine and Barry were coming in.
This is starting to sound like the setting for a spooky tale.
It's a room where only a very limited number of wrimos can be there at once time because....
