Just as in the past, we'll have some word wars (timed writing sprints) with small prizes for the winners (e.g., most words written during a word war; most words written during the write-in; greatest percentage increase during the write-in). We'll also do some Box of Doom word wars.
Little Prizes
I've made some small gnome and troll sculptures for word war prizes for the write-ins I am hosting this year.

The box of doom:
It's essentially a box of colored sticks, each color corresponding to a range of wordcounts suitable for a 17 minute word war. Each wrimo draws the color that (mostly) fits their writing speed and sees if they can achieve the random wordcount written on the stick. Will you get lucky? Or will the Box of Doom spell your doom (mwahahahahaha -- evil laugh)?
Thanks to everyone who came! I found the write-in very productive; and we all enjoyed delicious mini muffins (pumkin ones and gluten-free blueberry ones) and grapes from Catherine (thanks, Catherine!) and halloween candy from Denise (thanks, Denise!). There were just the right number of word wars; you can see everyone who won a gnome and/or the right to wear a special hat (for winning twice).
Nichols Library opens at 1 pm; the write-in begins at 1:30 pm, though I will try to be there at 1 pm if folks want to get started early.
Parking is usually a bit tight. If you can't find parking in the lot at the library (which gets used by downtown visitors because the library is so centrally located), you might try the lot to the west at the Alfred Rubin Community Center. There are usually some spaces there even when the Nichols lot is full.
Here are the photos from today's write-in (2014-11-02) at Nichols. Thanks to everyone who came and especially a big thanks to everyone who brought cookies, candy and especially those delicious dessert bars.
Just a reminder that I will be co-hosting the write-in tomorrow (Thursday, November 6th, 6 pm-8:45 pm) with Angie Baugher at the Eola Road Branch of the Aurora Public Library. I will be bringing gnomes and trolls as word war prizes; we'll be running word wars and the Box of Doom (with the Dove chocolate enticements to meet the challenges); and we'll be tracking winners in the regional word count spreadsheet (naperwrimo.org/wordcount)--feel free to sign yourselves in now.
I will also have the Vegetables of Achievement for folks to toss when they reach significant goals (self-defined). Come for the cathartic Huzzah! Stay for the well-deserved applause from your fellow writers!
To allow me to give out more word war prizes in Woodridge (November 21st) and 95th Street Library, Naperville (November 22nd), I've made a few more figurines for November 30th (Nichols Library, Naperville).
Some of the items coming up this weekend as prizes:
Looks like I won't be making it to the last write-in, after all. I need to babysit my 2-month-old nephew. If he falls asleep, I'll join the chat, but otherwise, I'll see everyone at the TGIO instead.
I'm sad. I won't be at the last write in either. I was planning on finally attending but we are in the middle of an impromptu move and I have to pack my house. I spent all day packing and will do the same tomorrow. :( I would much rather be writing with all of you.

The municipal building parking lot also had quite a bit of parking, and all the signage indicated that it was available Saturday and Sunday all day.

Awe - I wish I can have one of these - I'm going to miss the write in because I live so far away. :( They are so cute. :)
Stats from the Eola Road write-in:

Looking forward to today's (15 November) write-in at the Nichols Library in downtown Naperville.
Good opportunity to pick up a troll or wise woman or gnome today in the word wars.
Go ahead and sign-in here: naperwrimo.org/wordcount
I hope everyone writes so we can begin to chip away at OCGR's lead in the inter-regional word war!

Thanks to everyone who braved the cold and came out to the very productive write-in. Everyone won a prize!
