People often look at my word count and assume that I never pause, or hesitate, just type type type.
Not true.
I wrote my opening paragraph five times this morning, and I'm still not thrilled with my first line, but at least it's no longer about doing the dishes. (I saved that thrilling drama for later in the opening scene!)
When I started this morning (at 3 a.m.) it took me several tries to get into it and I could easily go back and revise. But it's more important to keep making progress. So that's what I'm doing.
So, if you're stuck with your opening line, or opening paragraph, get something down and move on. You can always fix it later.
