Can I just say that I want you to post all the time on the forums? Reading your posts make me happy.

That is all.

-A fan.

P.S.
I want all day NaNo write ins! They are great fun... last year I did an all day one and wrote about 18k. Good times. Gooood times.

Thank you Tim. Will try it. I also ordered "No Plot, No Problem" and am awaiting its arrival. I feel a tad better now that I've identified two of my main characters, a setting, and some sketchy thoughts about the plot. I hope it will all come together by November 1.

Thanks for the info. You are correct in your assumption. I was just at the library last week and asked several of the staff if they knew anything about it and all of the people I spoke with hadn't even heard of NaNo. I will have to check the board when I am there next week. (I take my daughter every week for story time.)
I have emailed the library in Tinley as well and haven't heard back from them yet.

Thanks again and good luck to you this year as well.

Hi everyone!
I'm Miranda and I'm 17 from Lombard, but I go to high school out in Naperville. I've attempted NaNo a few times before, but was never very social about it and never ended up even getting close to winning. This year I can hopefully find some friends and some motivation to reach the 50k!
I'm not quite sure what I'm going to write about yet, but it will probably end up being a young adult novel of some sort. I usually write mostly poetry, so novel writing is a little foreign to me but I'm really determined to write something I'm proud of this year. :)

Hi I'm Ansley, I'm 16 and this is my first year doing NanoWrimo and I'm SUPER excited. I'm not really great at talking about myself, but I play the piano, I'm in all advanced classes ( it will be a challenge to find writing time), and I do prose for my highschool speech team. Can't wait for Nov 1

Hello! I'm Jez and while I'm currently living in Missouri, I'm from Homer Glen and I plan on moving back to Chicago in January (Bolingbrook probably?). This is my...sixth? year doing NaNo and I've won twice, most recently last year, which is largely due to the great support of the Naperville NaNo group. I'm unsure yet if I'll be officially doing NaNo this year or using the word counts as an excuse to finish my NaNo from last year (has it been a whole year already? I feel like such a failure now).

I'll be in town at least twice in November and I am definitely going to try to make it to whatever write-in is going on at the moment. I could use the encouragement and besides, I miss you all!

We miss you too, Jez! It's great to hear that you'll be back in the area (just in time for the kick-off of the Journey!).

It will be great to see you when you are in town. Let me know when you're going to be around, and if there aren't enough write-ins, we can organize another one.

In September of 2006 my daughter challenged me to stop talking about writing a science fiction novel but to sign up for National Novel Writing Month and actually write on. I did and started writing my Legacy Rising series completing 75,000 words on Legacys Gift.

I followed this with Legacys Dawn (2007), Legacys Longing (2008) and Legacys Challenge (2009). Last year I took a break and wrote The Unclocked Door (2010), which although in the same universe and my Legacy Rising series is not directly related to the others; and The Legacy Conflict (2011). This year I will continue the series with Legacy's Conquest.

Id like to publish, but none of my works are fully edited yet where I would be willing to market them.

I have three adult children and two grandchildren (with two more on the way) and look forward to passing on a literary legacy born from these annual thirty days and nights of literary abandon.

Hello everyone! I am Andie Schweda a.k.a. Andrea_writes. I live in Oswego. This is the first time I've been brave enough to give this a try. I began really excited, and somewhat confident. However as November looms on the horizon, I'm getting more and more nervous. I wrote the dates from the Map into my date book, and when I finished, I realized that I wasn't breathing.

I'm beginning to doubt myself! 1,667 words a day....what was I thinking?

I have read, and reread this entire site, I've followed every link out there, hoping each time that I will uncover that little nugget of information that will revitalize me.

Help!

It's entirely possible. Once you start writing at that pace you'll realize how easy it isyou may even pick up speed! I definitely recommend being active in the community and attending write-ins. The Naperville region has such a great group that really keeps everyone motivated (and maybe a little competitive too) and makes it lots of fun. 1667 words a day sounds like a lot, but once you get rolling, it's not so bad.

I wish you luck and welcome to the group. :)

What works for me is to have my main character a parrot. A parrot who stutters... a lot. You'll be pushing 1,500 words before your parrot has anything interesting to say. That leaves 167 words to describe the scene, or what your parrots motivation is.

Seriously, there are days where writing one short paragraph took all day. My advice is to let it take all day, or to jump around and write somewhere else in your story. Linear story's are boring. Just ask my parrot.

Tom
p.s. We're all in this together. If you get stuck, reach out to a friend, or jump on the forums and talk it through. you'll get all the help and inspiration you need to make those 1667 words fly by.

Hi everyone!
My Pen names betty and I'm in Naperville!
This is my second serious attempt at nanowrimo, last year i started out ambitious but because i had a 2 week old baby at home my writing became sporatic and i eventually fell off. Now that my baby is a year old and there are more activities she can do with her father i feel really good about crossing the finish line this year.

My novel will be a 4th installment of a series I've been writing over the past 10 years. Ive completed my outlines and new character diagnostics and tonight I'm working on subplots.

I'd love to meet you guys at the write ins and such!

You were thinking that it would be a challenge! And fun! And you're right.

Here's another site for inspiration:

"Think you CAN. If it doesnt challenge you, it wont change you. And change breeds growth. So when a goal seems big and a plan looks tough, just start, push through it for awhile, and soon the next thing you need to do will look possible. Step by step you can get through anything this is the truth and you have to believe it. In the end, youre going to succeed because youre crazy enough to think you can."

I laughed SO hard when I read this that I almost splashed water all over my keyboard! This water? It was in my mouth. Noooooot a pretty sight. Still, I may have to resort to including a stuttering parrot in one of the scenes if all else fails. :D

Well, I've been all over the other threads and have just now landed in the intro thread. Doing things backwards you say? This is the norm for me. At first, I wasn't sure if it was legal to join what I thought was the "wrong" region for me. But Tim's original post stated "suburbs west of Chicago."

*checks map*

I qualify! Woot!

What I should have done during the kick-off party was exhibited a bit more creativity and introduced myself to everyone as "The Peddler of Dreams, or just call me Dreams...or tPod!" But no, I was probably running low on sugar and revealed instead that I am known by a more mundane appellation...Jade. Bah. That was a failure to plan on my part.

This is my second attempt at NaNo, but I feel like I'm still new since that first attempt was back in 2003 and ended up in a spectacular failure. The story's momentum promptly died and the awful screeching sound from its sudden derailment and subsequent halt was heard for miles and miles. Wait, maybe that sound was me screaming in frustration. I'm not sure since it was so long ago.

Honestly, I was dragging my feet about committing to NaNo this year (as I've done ever year since the first), hence not making up an account until the later half of October. But I feel equipped to forge on properly now. I've had great grub at the kickoff party, made some new writing buddies to keep me on track, added write-ins to my calendar, joined the Jabber chat and I have my NaNoBots Hipster PDA with me at all times. What could possibly go wrong?

If you see me at the write-ins, you'll likely also meet Gelato, the plot bunny. Come and say hello. *He* doesn't bite.

Hi, everyone! You can call me "niki" and this is my second NaNo! I just moved to Chicago from Detroit (still moving on the weekends!) and trying to find a NaNo home.

I actually am staying closer to Schaumberg, but the Chicago region isn't hosting any write-ins in my area. After complaining at the Detroit Kick-Off Party, my friend AmaranthMuse, who used to be a part of this Naperville area, raved about how awesome you all are and encouraged me to join this region!

I probably won't make many write-ins since I've discovered the nightmare that is Chicago rush hour traffic, but I hope to drop in at least once to something!

Hi everybody, I'm Nik Markevicius, and I've been wanting to do this for a couple years. Somehow, I picked this year, right after the birth of my first child, to be insane and do this. I'm not a first-time novelist (I've written about 8 first-novels, so far!), and I want to kick-start an idea I've had stewing for NaNoWriMo.

Between baby and my day job as a mailman, I'm not sure how many physical events I can come to, but I'll be active online. I'm looking forward to this, and to meeting more writers from the are.

My contact info is on my about page. Feel free to say hi!

Yours in words,
Nik

Oh hell, I guess I'm in...

I'm Steve, a past participant from '08, '09 and '10. I finished all three years, sometimes just barely. I sat out last year but I guess I'm just a glutton for punishment, so here I am. I was in the middle of outlining a novel when I discovered that someone else just published a book with the same idea, so I haven't had time to do a lot of outlining for the next idea. It's going to be a mix of pantsing, planning and ongoing research as I go. I didn't want to do it this way, but what can you do.

I'm also a member of the Journey. I'll be trying to make some write-ins but that will be work dependent - maybe I'll see you there.

Best of luck!
