Re: Introduce yourself to the region!
A little late to the party - well, not on my novel but in introducing myself. I'm Paige, living in the lovely suburb of Glen Ellyn, yet missing my hometown of Nashville, Tennessee - well, at least the weather. I've never done NaNo before and I'm right around 30,000 words at this point, which makes me happy. I've written several novels, gotten stuck in one for the past year (or two), fallen off the sending-out-queries wagon and just generally got lost in the creative writing world. NaNo is helping me find my way.
So glad to be here!
Re: Introduce yourself to the region!
Heyy, this'll be the lurker that forgets to check their email... this is my first year and I'm trying to complete a fantasy novel.
Re: Introduce yourself to the region!
Hi James
Been involved for a while but just getting around to introducing myself. so, what happens in December?
Re: Introduce yourself to the region!
Hi, I'm Ashley aka WhimsicalSnowflake, and I'm a little tardy to the introduce-yourself party because I've been trying to hard to write that introducing myself just slipped my mind!
I'm currently floating around 35k and this is my slowest NaNo ever - EVER - in my three-now-four years of NaNoing because of the school commitments I've had. The school play, which I was producing, went on through the first two weeks and the third week, when I thought I'd be able to catch up, one of the other clubs I'm in kicked into high-gear and knocked me back in the dust again. AT THE SAME TIME, all my teachers decided to give gigantic tests. Same week. And that week's over now, and now it's this week, and I have been a furious writing machine trying to catch up. XD
So this year I'm writing a story called Unforgettable about a girl who can erase things from people's minds. My story has been slightly taken over by my new favorite formerly-supporting-but-now-practically-a-protagonist character, Rosie, and hopefully I'll be able to finish during the long Thanksgiving weekend.
Sorry for being a recluse and not going to the writing events - like I said, it's been really crazy and I've barely had a spare second to breathe this whole month. Assuming all goes well, I'll be able to catch up pretty quickly (I'm within 3k of the target word count, which I think is kind of impressive considering I was about 9k behind last Friday) and maybe next year I'll be better about showing up!
Best of luck to all and happy almost-Thanksgiving!
~~Ashley/Whimsy
Re: Introduce yourself to the region!
A really late introduction. I decided this year to do an unofficial "light" Nano as last year proved too grueling for me. I've been aiming for 1000 words a day and so far have had great success with the pace ... enough to progress the story but not so hard I burn out half way through the month. I started up my account and threw in my word count after hearing about your word wars challenge. Thought the extra word count could help give you a boost. Happy Writing!
Re: Introduce yourself to the region!
Hi! My name is Katie. Saw the email about the word wars and wanted to make sure that mine count towards the total, few though they may be. This is my third year, and though I am definitely behind, I am hoping to make up some ground over the long weekend! Good luck to everyone! :)
Re: Introduce yourself to the region!
Hi! I'm not usually the competitive type, but I'd figure I'd throw in my word count and help out those of you who are.
P.S: I love NaNo, even though this is only my second year participating!
Free writing critique group open to all writers
For anyone who wants feedback on their writing, the Writers@Work critique group meets 7:15 p.m. first, second and fourth Mondays in the lower level of the College of DuPage Student Resource Center. (We have an abbreviated schedule in December but will be back to full strength in January.) Please email me, cassie67@mindspring.com, for more information.
If you'd like to get on our newsletter list and receive notifications of our meetings, send an email to mudbugg@mindspring.com and put Writers@Work in the tagline.
Writers@Work is open to all writers. In our 16 years of meetings, we've read poetry, screenplays, essays, novels, short stories and more. Many of us are working on novels, and we often discuss writing and publishing issues at the start and end of the meeting.
You don't have to read, but if you'd like to read, bring 6-8 copies to pass out to the group. You'll have 10-20 minutes to read (depending on the number of people reading that night), and then the group will respond with questions and comments. We're not competing with one another, so we try to keep things positive and talk in terms of what we like, what was unclear, and what "bumped" us out of the story.
Good luck to everyone in the final stretch of NaNoWriMo, and I hope to see you at Writers@Work!
Re: Introduce yourself to the region!
Saw the email and figured I'd help with the word war.
My name's Christina. This will be my second NaNo. I tried in 2008 and failed miserably, but this year I've done a heck of a lot better. I kind of feel like my quaint little novel has grown into a monster who will not be satisfied once I hit 50k words. I never thought I'd see the day...It's definitely feels great though.
Re: Introduce yourself to the region!
Howdy! My name is Peter, Teper129. Usually writing fantasy, I participated and won in 2009, took last year off, and we'll see how this year goes, haha. Best of continued luck to you all!
Re: Introduce yourself to the region!
Hi,
My name is Karen. This is my second year doing nanowrimo. I completed the 50,000 last year, and am on my way to finishing it this year. I actually wrote the 50,000 in two weeks last year, and had no idea that I could write that quickly. Nanowrimo changed the way I looked at my ability to write in general and has helped me in so many ways.

Re: Introduce yourself to the region!
Hey! My name's Jean, and like a few others before me I'm here in this thread to help out with the word war. I've been something of an unofficial participant this year, but figured I might as well upload my word count and join in on the fun. :)
Re: Introduce yourself to the region!
I'm late to the introductions, but I bring with me about 20,000 words, so far. My name is Chris and I haven't given up on reaching 50,000 words by November 30th. I participated the last two years and reached the goal. I wasn't quite so far behind during those years. Ack.
Re: Introduce yourself to the region!
Hello, fellow Nano-ers! My name is Amy, and this is my first Nanowrimo experience. I've had a nagging idea for a young adult novel cluttering my brain for quite some time, so I figured Nano was just the motivation I needed to stop thinking and start writing. The beginning of the month was strong, but eventually my internal editor kicked into high gear (as it so often does), and my progress slowed to a pitiful crawl. My current word count is right around 14,300, a far cry from 50,000. As it is now painfully obvious, sadly I will not be heading to the winners' circle by the end of November. At least I have a start, and I'm destined to complete this thing over the next month or two.
Besides, there's always next November, right? :o)
Re: Introduce yourself to the region!
I guess I'm supposed to introduce myself to participate in the word war with Maryland, and I am doing os. I am writing my second nano, and have about 5000 words to go to win for t h e second time; this year's been rougher than last, but I'm still fighting to the finish because I eat my spinach! (Or something like that.)
Re: Introduce yourself to the region!
Hi! I'm Yvette From Shorewood Joining this late but would love for my words to help!! This was fun! Can't wait to do it again next year and hopefully I can make it to some of the write ins :)
My story is about an undercover cop by day and slayer of immortals by night. Vamps, Demons and any other non living being that's not following the rules. She starts out trying to collect evidence to put a doctor away, but ends up trying to prove otherwise
Re: Introduce yourself to the region!
I know I'm a little late on this, but between writing, feeding my video game addiction, and working for Sears during the Black Friday season, things have been a little busy. I'm Apple Haggis, and this has been my third year participating in and winning NaNo. I was introduced to the whole affair by ThePiratess in 2009, and plan on being an active participant for as long as I have fingers to type with.
My story this year was a zomcom about a very boring accountant who is accidentally raised back from the dead by a very well-meaning voodoo priest in New Orleans. Hijinks ensue when Mortimer (Mort for short) takes a job as a cab operator (since he's technically an illegal citizen) and winds up as his resurrector's getaway driver in a series of misadventures including loitering vampires, rock-and-roll werewolves, ghosts in denial, and an evil scheme to turn Mardis Gras into a zombie revolution.
Also, I actually live in Lafayette, IN, but my ML here this year left me awfully lacking, so ThePiratess twisted my arm to join up with her region. Hope no one minds the intrusion.
Re: Introduce yourself to the region!
HI this is Kat :D
I'm really new to Nanowrimo, literally I just learned about it 2 months before November, so this was my first Nano.
I failed really epically, I had no real plan in mind, just took one of my abandoned Ideas that was left on the side of the road and tried to nurturer it back to health. Unfortunately, it died.
Grim I am, I enjoy books with a horrible ending, like no "and they lived happily ever after' cliche horrible, I mean evil wins and all die. I would really like to join in on stuff with you guys, by next season I want to become a better writer and finish the goal of 50k.
thanks ;D
Re: Introduce yourself to the region!
Hi!
It's over and I made it. Well, kind of. I met the 50k, but I still need to finish it. I'm looking forward to meeting people who are also part of the Journey.
Re: Introduce yourself to the region!
I will be sending out a note to all the Journey folks soon; and we may set up some informal prep sessions (to get people set up with jabber and the wiki) between now and the January 14th meeting.
Re: Introduce yourself to the region!
Hi guys! I am joining a little out of season but I had to see what this writing thing was all about. My teacher kept telling me about how this thing called nanowrimo would help me SO much and was SO fun and was SO amazing. So I had to see for myself after hearing about this for I have no idea how long and I wish I had looked at it sooner because it looks really cool and I think she was right. So HIIII! Can't wait till November! :D
Re: Introduce yourself to the region!
Welcome, Lexaloo. Please be aware that we have a year-round writing group called the Journey; it is currently active with more than 45 members. You're very welcome to join in some of these (e.g., novel editing, several short story anthologies). Send me nanomail if you're interested.

Re: Introduce yourself to the region!
Hello there, Lexaloo! I'm writingstudent, a fellow student. I got into this cause of my aunt and I have to admit, it's one of the best decisions that I have ever made! I've made so many friends and progressed so much in my writing! Just as Tim had said, we do have the Journey. This is also a great group! You should really come on out to a meeting! A lot of the people that do Nanowrimo also do this! : ) The short stories are especially fun, I'm an editor of one with some of my friends.
