Looking for volunteers at the TGIO...to sing
I have plot critters left and am willing to give them away to anyone who volunteers for this.
Since we lost to Maryland :( we have to sing their song, which has a ridiculous number of verses. While we will all do a little singing of it, we don't want paying this dept to occupy too much of our TGIO, so we're looking for a few brave souls to be willing to sing all of Maryland's song.
To start it off, I'll volunteer FinBarrMcG. (Haven't told him yet, but if he's willing to write 50K every year just because I ask, he'll do this, right? Right?) Oh, and Tim will do it since he made the bet without finding out how long their song was.
You do NOT have to have the ability to sing well to participate.
We'll try to do this at 11:45 --and don't worry, if you don't want to sing, there will be other activities. So don't come late just to avoid this. I won't make you sing unless you're NewMexicoKid or married to me.
You're welcome to volunteer other people, but I'm the only one who gets to volunteer people without having to sing myself. (I dislike Christmas music and Maryland's tune is 'Oh Christmas Tree.') Although I think we may all sing Cee-Bee's version.

Maryland, Mighty Maryland
Written by Lee/punahougirl84
(to the tune of Oh Christmas Tree, this parodies our state song)
The time has come to write some more,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
NaNoWriMos at our door,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
Well plot til every hand is sore,
Well flood the streets of Baltimore,
With hearty tales of yesteryore,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
Our characters have deep appeal,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
Our settings others wish to steal,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
For sight and sound, the senses reel,
But touch and taste and smell reveal,
Our writers craft novels with zeal,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
Well not cower, write we must,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
Our shining laptops never bust,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
Remember Batys sacred trust,
Dodge any regions warlike thrust,
Well leave them all back in our dust,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
Dont despair the red dawn of day,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
The finish lines not far away,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
With Tom Clancys wordy ways,
With Poes spirit for the fray,
Writers great as the Chesapeake Bay,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
Come! For thy pen is bright and strong,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
Procrastination does thee wrong,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
Join our write-ins heroic throng,
Stalking 50K along,
And pad a new scene with a song,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
Break your inner critics chain
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
Your editor should call in vain,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
High self-esteem should be quite plain,
Write On Blue Crabs our proud refrain,
Our region reigns supreme again,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
A blush upon our rivals cheek
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
For their writings ever meek
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
What ho we hear their urgent shriek
Poor challenger more words they seek
But their word count was too weak
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
We must ignore the laundry toll
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
Weve pitched the darn remote control
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
Forgot to check our Facebook scroll
Forgot to fill the childrens bowls
Sacrifice is good for the soul
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
Finally our books are done,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
We verify weve really won,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
The purple bars a welcome sight,
And thus we prove our writing might,
Well neer give up without a fight,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
Re: Looking for volunteers at the TGIO...to sing
I love singing. Whether or not others enjoy HEARing it is something else altogether (just ask my kids). So I volunteer to heartily belt out the verses above. Is it a blessing or a curse if they are slightly out of tune?
Re: Looking for volunteers at the TGIO...to sing
Yay! Since they wrote such a long regional song, I'd say out of tune is good.
Re: Looking for volunteers at the TGIO...to sing
I'm pretty sure me and Sarah (writingstudent) are planning to sing this entire thing by ourselves, because our singing voices are lovely. (haha.) No one else need sing.
^ I'm kidding, because I will not sing alone.
But, that being said. I am there.
Re: Looking for volunteers at the TGIO...to sing
Also, don't give Sarah a choice in the manner. SHE PROMISED ME.
Re: Looking for volunteers at the TGIO...to sing
Hmm... wasn't it Sarah who picked this fight? She'd better sing! LOL
I will add my voice, we put up a good fight.
Re: Looking for volunteers at the TGIO...to sing
Thanks very much, Ky, Katherine (T2), Linda and Barry. I greatly appreciate the support.
While their song is rather ... ah ... lengthy and not as much fun to sing as ours, we always pay our debts; and we have always enjoyed the other regions who have sung our song in good faith. We will sing their song with (way too much) gusto and show we're good sports.
And the whole region will chime in on the refrain.
Thanks!
Re: Looking for volunteers at the TGIO...to sing
Sounds like we have a good start, but the more the merrier. Barry had a great idea. We could start with a bunch of people and have someone drift away with each verse, as if it's just too much to endure. Would want enough so that we still had two people singing at the end, probably.
Re: Looking for volunteers at the TGIO...to sing
By two people left, you obviously mean me and Sarah.
(No, I'm kidding, again... not really. It would make me laugh.)
Re: Looking for volunteers at the TGIO...to sing
I have a great twist to add to Barry's idea. Rather than a video of us singing, we can make a video of our plot critters singing (there are more of them ;-) ) and we can use our fingers to make them dance and such (and drift away). :-)
Re: Looking for volunteers at the TGIO...to sing
I like that ... we should all bring our plot critters along!
Re: Looking for volunteers at the TGIO...to sing
From Maryland in response to my request for an audio file:
One of my writers did this:
http://wildandbad.com/files/Maryland%20Mighty%20Maryland.mp3
She warned us that she sang/played this a half-step down from the chords I posted. Just go with what works for you!
Re: Looking for volunteers at the TGIO...to sing
Half a step? We have to stand on the stairs? In between two stairs? One foot on each stair?
Haha... I do not kid when I say my musical ability is nonexistent.
Re: Looking for volunteers at the TGIO...to sing
It's too bad we don't have any guitar players coming to the TGIO to accompany us :-/
Re: Looking for volunteers at the TGIO...to sing
I played guitar in high school ... now where did I put that thing... (will my Rock Band guitar work?)
Re: Looking for volunteers at the TGIO...to sing
hum, I have a guitar... but I can play only two cords. I was going to bring my mini violin instead of a stuffed animal as a joke in reference to something someone said at one point that won't be funny anymore, perhaps I could play along on that. It would sure add to the joke as it's impossible to play with full person sized hands.
Re: Looking for volunteers at the TGIO...to sing
I'll sing I'll sing ...oh dear missed it *grin*
Re: Looking for volunteers at the TGIO...to sing
That's all right. We do this every year and Tim never forgets anyone who volunteers :)
Our elite singing group was marvelous! Thanks to all who helped out in doing this so that as a group we only had to sing one verse of their song. The only problem is we'll probably sound way better than they deserve in the final product once Tim works his magic.
Re: Looking for volunteers at the TGIO...to sing
This is a ridiculously LONG song!
