Hi everyone. I know I'm late adding myself to the regional graph, but better late than never, right?

1. My novel is a YA book. Adam, a bullied, closeted gay teen on the verge of suicide is "rescued" by Angel, a slightly older boy with a vastly different background, who self-appoints himself Adam's protector. Adam and Angel overcome obstacles build a close friendship that verges on love without ever quite crossing the line, even in secret. Then the confused and frustrated Adam meets another boy whos interested in more than friendship and has to make difficult choices that may impact more than just his relationship with Angel.

2. The book will have a happy ending. Adam will reconcile his conflicting priorities and will finally stop hiding who he is. He will leave the restrictive and confining atmosphere of his family home to live openly with the boy he loves.

3. Meet up with people at write-ins so that November doesn't turn into a very solitary month. (Unfortunately, due to lack of time, I have been very bad at following this piece of my own advice.) Find as many writing buddies as possible, preferably ones who write faster than you and keep pushing you towards the goal!

As of this morning I've fallen a little behind on my word count, and with the holiday ahead I'm terrified that this year I won't make it over the finish line, so wish me luck!

Happy writing!

Liz

1. a boy loses his mother and his family is not able to deal with it. He runs to the library to read to escape in books and finds himself in a secret library that houses the stories of everyone, and is given the opportunity to bring his mother back to life, but to do it he will have to help evil.

2.In the end Seth (the main character) will do what his mother would be proud of and stand up to evil and not help it,

3. Take 5-10 minutes a day to plan what you will write that day. It helps the words to flow if you know the path you need to take for that session. It is time invested not wasted.

I did this for 'Yes, Or?' but since I'm now in the middle of 'French Consequences' figure I'll say a bit about it. (In case you don't know, I'm writing two novels. And while I finished the first one (at 97,751 words), I have a lot to go on the second one. So, no, I'm not just coasting. I'm pushing myself to write each day so that I finish the first draft of this book by the end of November.)

1. French Consequences - As a manager, Estelle hates being contradicted by her employees, but Miriam values technical truth over French office politics. Their relationship is tense because Miriam slept with Estelle's husband on her first night in Paris. Miriam thought they'd moved past it and that Estelle was getting a divorce but Raoul returns to cause problems between the women. Miriam isn't about to sleep with him again, but Estelle might consider it.

2. Ending -- I just realized that there's a book 3. (This is book two, I wrote French Impressions several years ago during NaNoWriMo.) I have an idea for how it's going to end, but some of that may end up in the third book.

3. Advice. When things are going slow, sketch in what needs to happen. It doesn't have to be detailed, or good writing, just know that:
X walks into the room. Y stands up and almost falls over, X shoves a cake in Y's face
Then it can be fleshed out much faster than when you don't even suspect that a cake is about to show up.

I don't know why it always takes me so long to add myself to this, but it does. Anyway, finally am, so!

1. My novel is just the first Harry Potter book from Percy Weasley's perspective. He's my favorite character, and I like the idea of exploring the chaos of that year in contrast to the other years which would have been... less chaotic for him.

2. "My brother you know! My youngest brother! Got past McGonagall's giant chess set!"

3. Pick someone on the region graph and say "I am going to beat this person's word count or die trying!" That's what I did with Tim a few years ago (I don't think I ever actually told him that, though) and I turned out 34k in the last two days. Heh.

1. Murder mystery/police procedural set here in Naperville.
2. How will it end. I have plotted it out through the end but things change as I write the scenes, so we shall see where the "characters" take it.
3. Advice. Write through to the end or you may never get there.

I have FINALLY moved from being in the red this entire time (starting 5 days late in this) to now being in the white, being only 600 words behind being in the green! My husband and I are on a road trip today, and I managed to crank out 4,200 words on the drive. Thank everyone for the posts I have red to keep me going in this. Just yesterday I was about to throw my computer against the wall, and the very next day I write over double what my goal was.

Now I got over my hump, am in a deep valley, and know I will probably hit my mountain soon... well darn it, hopefully I can get over that one too!

1) A Russian soldier in the Great War (WWI) must rebuild his life after Russia withdraws from the war, only to find internal tension back in Russia. He soon discovers a plot to kill Vladimir Lenin, and as it goes in all novels, gets wrapped up in it.

2) No idea how it will end - even though we're already well into the month...My plot is probably going to take me well over 50000 by the time I eventually finish it.

3) Hmm...Word wars and chocolate, I'd say.

I'm India Powers and I finished a paranormal historical novel thanks to NaNo 2012!

What is your best advice for others in this region to achieve success in NaNo?

What worked for me was writing every day. Some days I could barely manage 100 words, but I'd usually make the word count up on another day. I also use WriteWay Pro. It has a little pie chart at the top of the menu, so I could see my progress. I would challenge myself to hit the next percentage, next hundred words, NaNo minimum - anything that kept me writing.

1. Give a 1-3 sentence synopsis of your novel:

A young girl, whose parents have recently died, goes to live with her grandparents. Their attic holds a secret, and she cannot resist finding what it is. When she does, she enters a new world that needs saving, and she discovers it is much more connected to her world than she ever expected.

2. If you have some thoughts on how your novel will end, share these.

My protagonist helps in healing a land that was conquered long ago by a tyrant who misused an old and dark form of magic.

3. What is your best advice for others in this region to achieve success in NaNo?

Before starting NaNo, have a loose structure of a beginning, middle and end in your mind . Finish the day's writing with an idea of what to write about the following day (i.e., don't stop writing for the day at a logical end in the plot). Write something every day, even if it's just a few hundred words. A small effort can go a long way.

1. Two best friends since childhood test the limits of their friendship and devotion when things start to go very wrong. Damon and Finn have had the best of times and the worst of times, but are about to share a life changing experience more unbelievable than any they've been through.

2. The way that my novel will end most definitely revolves around Finn and Damon remaining together. Like brothers, they have always been there for each other and have formed a special bond, simply by being friends and having to face hardships together. Death has not stopped them in the past and it will not stop them now.

3. Write as much as you can, even if you have no idea where it's going. Most of the time, it's where your characters want to go overriding where you want them to go. Let them speak.
