I want something cute, and slightly sexy, that a guy in his late twenties who spends a lot of time playing video games would do--some sort of movement that a slightly-repressed woman who likes to take care of things would find sexy.

Any ideas?

The only thing I can think of that isn't totally lewd is to maybe wipe his lip, but that's already been done in one of my favorite video games. I found it annoying at first, but grew to love it over the course of the game. :)

I thought /forever/ to think of something I could post here, and the only things I could think of were in regards to his mouth / fingers.

... but that may just be because I've got an oral fixation. xD
So I decided not to post.

But now I am anyway.

Okay, so I don't know if this is helpful or not, but I'm a teenager and a lot of my guy friends play video games alllllll the time. One of them (who is pretty cute, by the way ;) ) always reaches up - without taking his eyes off the game - and straightens the tiny flip of hair on his forehead. He does it all the time, even when his hair isn't even remotely out of place. I always find that incredibly endearing. Hope that helps you get an idea!!

That's a good idea. And the sort of thing I was looking for. Thank you!

Hi Katherine,
I think you know what I'm going to say ... But I need to know a little bit about what our twenty-something gamer looks like, before I can suggest what might be sexy for him.

Does he have facial hair? Does he wear a hat, and try to pull it lower to hide his eyes? Is he tall and lanky, and has to tug at his t-shirt down to cover his belt? Does he wear rings or jewelry, or headphones?

As far as sexy, I always think that extra moment a guy stares is incredibly endearing. Or that little smile that plays at the corners of his mouth before he says something sweet.

He's blond. Fraid that's all I know at this point. Funny, I was just emailing Ivan in CC that my outlining is going pretty good so it might be time to work on description. Naw!

I like the little smile, but not sure he's saying anything sweet. He's diabetic and acting a bit off because he hasn't eaten, and is nervous and his blood sugar is dropping.

Yes, I know all that, and haven't a clue what he looks like.

Can I be a discovery writer when it comes to description? I discover what he looks like only when someone makes me around the 3rd or 4th draft .... :)

Interesting.
You and I might be opposites then when it comes to discovery writing.

I know pretty much what my characters look like along with their quirks, but don't have all that much idea of what their story is going to be until I write it! My story solidifies around the third draft or so. Usually ...

Diabetic is definitely a biggie though. I can't help much on that because I don't know anyone who is diabetic.

I'm got 41 scenes so far -- with knowing who is where and when. Down to the minute. But then, this is for "Yes, Or?" which takes place in 24 hours. While I have vague ideas of what the characters are like, and I've named them all and only renamed half of them in the last week :) I leave some of their specifics such as what they like and dislike to come out while writing.

When I write with multiple POV characters, I find it very useful to lay out who is in what scene and what POV it is from to be sure that the overall book is balanced. I just did major modifications of one character's arc, and was very glad that it just required minor tweaks to replace him in improv skits with another char since I hadn't actually written the whole skit--just the basics of who was in them and what it was about.

I was getting worried that I wasn't getting this outlined enough, but on Monday I set a goal of 1K words on character, description and scene setting per day. That focus helped me identify a couple of holes and nail down some basics which *should* make the writing go easier.

The diabetes is a device so he can disappear and everyone be worried. See, I know that because my plot needs it, but I don't know how many girlfriends he's had in the past, or what he studied in college until I'm writing the novel and he needs X or Y. Nor do I know what he looks like until another character gives me some idea of what her taste in men is, so this guy can match it.
