Dear Naperville Wrimos,

After asking your amazing ML Tim/NewMexicoKid to add USA::Maryland to his faces tool, he lamented the lack of an inter-regional word war to help motivate your word count efforts. Maryland, despite being embroiled in a heated traditional battle with the Lushguins of Austin-Houston, is a compassionate region and has accepted the gauntlet thrown by your own WritingStudent.

The little widget is very cute. We look forward to shifting those numbers a bit, and watching your recording of Maryland, Mighty Maryland!

Lee, ML, MD (who must now finish WRITING Maryland, Mighty Maryland, based on our state song, which is sung to the tune of O Tannenbaum, aka Oh Christmas Tree)

Bring it! (Smiles...snapping with crabby claws swimming swiftly amid the murky depths)

As Johnny Bravo would say: "Hoo Ha!" (In this instance, it means "Bring it!" ;-) Looking at you, Carol.)

Also, their widget is wicked adorable. And now, I need some sleep so that I can write words that make sense tomorrow...

Much love!

Wow--I can see that your region likes the idea of a word war! You've added ten more to your faces page and narrowed the gap by about 1000 words per wrimo!

*rallies the troops to write, write, write*

Give me a plot bunny or three. I'll be there to pick them up at some point or another.

I'm in the region (homed, oh yes) and... hell, let's have four 10,000 word days. Why not. I'm stalled out and I could use something to motivate me.

See you at 108,000 on Sunday. TAKE THAT, MARYLAND.

Is that even a state? ;)

We have a bunch of people involved in our traditional word ward, but I think other people realized that hey, we have a Welcome thread and decided to post in it! I guess we have people needing some okoke-kicking too.

I'm just sorry our million-word-a-month writer moved to our Lushguin competitors. But Maryland is not only a state, but a VERY wordy region despite our loss of Caeraerie - so HAH!

Heck, our cute new crab even has a jousting lance so have at you LOLOL!

Lee (ML who must bake at the moment but will get back to writing... must finish my story... ack ack!)

I'm Sorry! I just couldn't resist starting another war!
They're just oh so fun!
Maryland, have you started to practice our song yet?
You probably should! ;)

We're writing away here in MD, determined to trounce y'all with our awesome wordage.
We really do NOT want to sing your song and that will motivate us as much as anything else.

It's actually quite a fun song to sing (focused more on NaNoWriMo than anything else and quite catchy). And we always sing the songs of our word war opponents just to be neighborly (though sometimes we tweak the lyrics a tad). :-)

We boiled a pot of crabs this week. Delish! I, however, do NOT want a case of Maryland Crabs! LOL

The Battle Hymn of Naperville

Our eyes have seen the stories, its our duty to record,
For our region it is mightier than any mouse that roared,
And mightier are 50,000 words than any sword,
Our region marches on.

(Chorus)
Story, story hallelujahstory, story, hallelujahstory, story, hallelujah,
Our region marches on.

We have seen the tales of Naperville and have given them our stamp,
We have typed so late into the night weve had to light a lamp,
We have made our hands keep writing til they seize right up and cramp,
Our region marches on.

(Chorus)
Story, story hallelujahstory, story, hallelujahstory, story, hallelujah,
Our region marches on.

We have sounded forth the trumpet call, so Marylander flees,
Well get more words no matter just how hard we have to squeeze,
Oh be swift, my mouse, to heed the call, be jubilant, my keys!
Our region marches on.

(Chorus)
Story, story hallelujahstory, story, hallelujahstory, story, hallelujah,
Our region marches on.

Thanks, Ky, it was fun to do. Plus, I put it in my novel, which is about writing a novel for NaNoWriMo. It's an endless loop!

Okay okay, that song is pretty awesome. But we are going to trounce you all. Now to get back and try and Win today...

vix

Remember Merimde, if we don't out-write them we'll need to sing that -- and VIDEO IT -- at next Saturday's TGIO. This is so not what I had in mind when I proposed karaoke.

Cee-Bee

I guess you don't HAVE to sing the Battle Hymn of Naperville. The only one that will be required will be our official regional song, "Typing Away Again Near Dear Old Naperville." I just thought you might enjoy the chance to expand your performance!

Tairisanders
114217 words so far Winner!

Just make sure you include the song in your word count ;)

Cee-Bee

Oh, yes, it's definitely included!

punahougirl84

LOL! I can't believe how motivating this has been! People who missed out on our Lushguin challenge got to join in and have this motivate them to the end!

Really hoping you all get a chance to sing this!:

Maryland, Mighty Maryland
Written by Lee/punahougirl84
(to the tune of Oh Christmas Tree, this parodies our state song)

The time has come to write some more,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
NaNoWriMos at our door,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
Well plot til every hand is sore,
Well flood the streets of Baltimore,
With hearty tales of yesteryore,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!

Our characters have deep appeal,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
Our settings others wish to steal,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
For sight and sound, the senses reel,
But touch and taste and smell reveal,
Our writers craft novels with zeal,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!

Well not cower, write we must,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
Our shining laptops never bust,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
Remember Batys sacred trust,
Dodge any regions warlike thrust,
Well leave them all back in our dust,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!

Dont despair the red dawn of day,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
The finish lines not far away,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
With Tom Clancys wordy ways,
With Poes spirit for the fray,
Writers great as the Chesapeake Bay,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!

Come! For thy pen is bright and strong,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
Procrastination does thee wrong,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
Join our write-ins heroic throng,
Stalking 50K along,
And pad a new scene with a song,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!

Break your inner critics chain
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
Your editor should call in vain,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
High self-esteem should be quite plain,
Write On Blue Crabs our proud refrain,
Our region reigns supreme again,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!

A blush upon our rivals cheek
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
For their writings ever meek
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
What ho we hear their urgent shriek
Poor challenger more words they seek
But their word count was too weak
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!

We must ignore the laundry toll
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
Weve pitched the darn remote control
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
Forgot to check our Facebook scroll
Forgot to fill the childrens bowls
Sacrifice is good for the soul
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!

Finally our books are done,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
We verify weve really won,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!
The purple bars a welcome sight,
And thus we prove our writing might,
Well neer give up without a fight,
Maryland, Mighty Maryland!

Wow! I've never seen writers push so hard in the last week of NaNoWriMo! Thank you for your motivating challenge, which helped push us over the edge... I mean, finish line! I think both sides did an amazing job - our averages are well beyond the norm for NaNo.

We hope you had as much fun as we did, and we wish you good luck finishing/editing/sleeping/shopping or whatever you are off to do after your TGIOs!

I still need to buy more purple beads for my party. And in case you need this:

Congrats to you Napervillans - that video was hysterical. I loved the guest appearance by William Shatner especially.

I didn't realise this thread existed (I was too busy writing), or else I would have posted my version of the song here for you to use for rehearsal. There are a couple of spots where you really have to concentrate on where to put the accent.

I can't wait to join in on next year's word war with you guys. Maybe next year you'll do harmonies for us. :)
