Since it came up in the Jabber chat earlier, I'll go ahead and post this.

Someone mentioned that they couldn't find the novel validation on the website. Tim chipped in that it wouldn't be up until the 25th. I think that only applies to uploading a file. If you don't mind copying and pasting your novel, you can validate right now!

On the menu at the top of the page, go under 'My NaNoWriMo' and click 'Edit Novel Info.' This will take you to the Edit Novel page. Once here, there's a link directly below the word count field that says 'I am ready to validate my novel.' This will bring up a dialog box where you can paste your novel. Just hit submit, and it will update the word count field. After that, scroll to the bottom and hit save to commit your changes.

I've done this in Firefox, but I don't know if it works currently under other browers.

ALSO PLEASE NOTE: to actually win, you will need to validate again AFTER November 25th. Even if you have 50K and you validate before then in this manner, it will not count as a win on the website. So make sure you validate between midnight on November 25th and 11:59:59PM on November 30th.

I never saw this link or anything about having to validate my novel. I finished with over 52K words with many hours to spare. May I say that the contest is wonderful, but the website and information about the contest sucks!!! I had no clue that I was required to upload my novel to get a winners banner under my name.

This information about uploading the novel should have been in every correspondence & pep talk from Nanowrimo. It was mentioned in the very first email, but the word "validate" never came up.

How about sending out a NaNoMail to all users with requirements for the contest? What a concept!!

The word count scoreboard for 2011 had a "coming soon" sign on the front of it until... it still does!! This would have been a good place for a link to upload and validate. Sorry... just a little bitter.

There is a thread to try to process late validations. I would encourage you and others in your situation to try this.
